BANGKOK – A two-star military general wanted for the brutal murder of his wife and 6-year-old daughter was arrested in Thailand on Saturday and sent back to Phnom Penh, where he was charged with premeditated murder Sunday.

Kim Marintha, a Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) major general, was arrested on Saturday while attempting to cross the Thai-Lao border by car, according to police. He was charged by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Sunday, officials said.

Major General Marintha is accused of murdering his wife, Va Dary, 30, and their 6-year-old daughter, whose decomposed bodies were discovered in Kompong Speu province’s Phnom Sruoch district in March.

“He is accused of premeditated murder, which shall be punished by life in prison,” deputy court prosecutor Keo Socheat said Sunday.

Judge Khy Chhai said the general was sent to pretrial detention at Prey Sar prison.

Should that read "if found guilty" after which?

Isn't the Cambodian judicial system modeled after the French which presumes guilt and the accused must prove their innocence?

Oh Dear, now the Cambodians are learning....Big Thai criminals can get refuge in Cambodia but it does not work the other way! Lol!

Alleged is a better word, but way to advanced for these clowns.

He tried to flee to Laos by car? Where was the car registered? If Cambodia, he didn't do a very good job at covering his movements as I've never seen a Cambodian car driving in Isan towards Laos, that alone would have been a tip-off for me. Although perhaps he tried to blend in by taking a Thai van operated by a visa company from Nong Khai that carries tourists over to Laos, after immigration changing to a Lao vehicle.

if he had of been thai and did it here they would have let him out o bail so he could run away then announce that she had committed suicide and their daughter died of a broken heart, cant convict a general especially if he has connections here, looks like Cambodia actually apply the law

He has the exact same expression on his face standing next to his young and pretty wife as he has when being extradited for her murder!

Maybe his whole family were murdered by Khmer Rouge under the Phol Pot regime so murder and killing was something he lived with every day when he was a kid.

I hope that was not an excuse for the disgusting crime he has allegedly committed? Millions of Cambodians lived under Pol Pot without becoming murderers themselves.

No excuse, I was reffering to his cold and hard look and no remorse. No human normal person can kill their own kid. A cold hearted murderer.

So what I think is maybe he accepted and saw his own family murdered before....or as a General, his family previously were complicit in killing 1.2 milion of there own people.

I dont understand how this can justify, killing the wife and child?

I read many such headlines from around the world, where a parent has gone crazy, murderous or suicidal. But why is it that in so many of these cases that they have to also murder their children?

Could it be that they hate their partners more than they love their children? They become obsessed with gaining the ultimate revenge and inflicting extreme punishments on their partners using their children as sacrificial pawns in the plot?

Probably requires a psychologist to answer these questions.

Does not say in the OP which way he was heading, probably more likely he was coming from Lao into Thailand.
