Chicken restaurant burnt to the ground

BANGKOK: Fire destroyed a popular grilled-chicken restaurant next to Bangkok's Rajdamnoen Boxing Stadium early yesterday morning.

No one was injured in the fire at Likhit Kaiyang Restaurant as a neighbour alerted the employees sleeping inside the establishment before it was engulfed in flames.

When the fire broke out the restaurant's owner, Kliewthong Panthurason, 76, and 17 employees were inside.

Neighbour Wanna Pimpa-sirikul, 75, said she noticed smoke coming from the kitchen and rushed to alert the employees inside.

The fire started at about 2.40am, said Lt-Colonel Suwan Phol-in, an inspector of Nangloeng Police Station.

By the time fire engines arrived at the scene the restaurant was engulfed in flames and all fire-fighters could do was prevent it from spreading.

The fire was put out at about 4am. The restaurant had been operating for five years.

Suwan said the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.

I think I know that place.

More cockroaches than any restaurant I have ever been to in Thailand.

Really big, bold ones. Crawl around right on your table.

The chicken was great though.

Probably the cockroaches would be healthier for you than the chicken.
