Why not..?

Why not, if he was trying to describe a particular circumstance to a non-English speaking Thai.and not merely showing off.

Agree.

If you are a Farang you are a Farang - so why not ?

Only white people should be allowed to use the F word amongst themselves, same as black people can only use the N word ;-)

Only if you first allow black people to own you and your brood for five generations. ;-)

Calling you a farang seems like the most sensible thing to do under the circumstances. The Thai guy probably would not have understood otherwise.

My wife and I are always exclaiming "Farang!" whenever we see one in the street.

But that's because it doesn't happen every day, and it's a family joke. I even extend the joke and will point to one in surprise and say "Wow, farang!" to Thais. They never get the joke though.

Not many farang carry house bricks when walking around Bangkok, and most minimarts don't sell them either.

i think he means Cha Am-sounds almost like Cambodia and contains some of the same characters...

I thought it was originally a tag reserved for the men from France.....

If somebody called me a frenchman....I would definitely hit them with a house brick. However, being called farang..comes with the territory. It is not going to go away because some people don't like the term.

I think of it as karma. If you go to the Philippines....they call all foreigners "Cano" (americano) or "Cana"....even the french get called that.... Now that is funny!!!!

Depends where you start from.

Don't worry about it. I'm sure if an Eskimo in Malta saw another Eskimo, he would refer to him in the "third person narrative" as .......an Eskimo.
