globalmedia8
Recently I returned to the Uk after a 4 year overstay in Thailand, I paid the fine at the airport and was told by IO thst I was now banned from Thailand. I was pretty sure this was not the caseafter numerous messages with UbonJoe however I decided to be safe to change my name and get a new passport To change your name by deed poll in the UK it is a very easy process, it tkes about 30 second and you have a print out that is accepted at the passport office. www . freedeedpoll . org . uk is the free site that I used I had already booked an appointment at the passport office, so arrived with the application form, the deed poll and 103 gbp for the seven day guaranteed service. 3 days later new passport with new name arrived by courier and next day flew back to Thailand on one way ticket and was stamped in for 30 days with no issue at all. I am now arranging the trip to Laos for the double entry visa. From what I as told I was not banned however I just wanted a belt and braces solution with a new passport and its worked so far
MJCM
Question, do you have any Bank Accounts in Thailand ? If so, how are you going to deal with that ?
Cuchulainn
I don't want to pee on your parade but I had a friend who was deported back to the UK and did the same as you ie changed his name by deed poll and got a brand new passport with a totally new name. He was admitted at Nong Khai on the new pp on a tourist visa and stayed for 3 months. On his 1st border run, he exited and tried to re enter at Aranyaprathet and was REFUSED entry. Apparently, the officer showed him the computer with his old passport details on it and said he was the same person as on the new pp. Ok so he was extradited and banned for life. I'm not saying this will happen to you, but I'd be prepared to be refused entry (pack your clothes and all documents etc). His was a serious offence and warranted jail time. Yours was only overstay. All I'm saying is be prepared to be refused entry and take all with you on your border run. Hopefully you'll be ok. Good luck!!
paz
You could also have used the services from a forum sponsor here to find out if you were indeed banned.

Cuchulainn
No. He was extradited by the Thai authorities with the help of the UK embassy and was escorted back to UK by British police to serve his time.
paz
No. He was extradited by the Thai authorities with the help of the UK embassy and was escorted back to UK by British police to serve his time. So he was wanted by the UK in first place, thing that you did not mentioned. Beside, you wrote "deported" in the first line of your post.
Cuchulainn
Yeah sorry. He was wanted in the UK and was extradited. A serious charge. If the OP was only overstay, he'll be fine. I'm just telling him to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

paz
Someone needs to learn about biometrics and facial recognition software. Perhaps Thailand has to, because as of today they don't have that, and are still "working" on implementing fingerprinting instead.
Cuchulainn
I wonder how they caught him at Aranyaprathet checkpoint if they don't have facial recognition software? Same place of birth & date of birth? I don't have anything to do with him anymore, but I think he's stumped as well!! As I said before, an overstayer should be ok. New UK passorts issued after a name change now have a computerised link to the previous name for tracking. Do not know if the Thai Border control systems are able to read this info from UK passports.

orchidlady
Current facial recognition software technology is not that accurate accurate after someone has had plastic surgery. RESEARCH TESTING has come up with methodology to increase to 85-94% accuracy after a fusion method involving several repeats. That is after advanced fusion algorithms. I discussed this research with engineering students I was teaching. If you have time, very interesting article http://www.cse.msu.edu/~rossarun/pubs/JillelaRossPlasticSurgery_BTAS2012.pdf This is obviously a keen research interest for security purposes. martin81
Many countries now have fingerprints in a RFID chip in passport. Maybe some time they only need to compare with stored fingerprints from previous entries. I know Thailand does not require fingerprints yet but at Phnom Penh airport they already do now. Soutpeel
They will pick it up eventually, maybe not today but then tomorrow. They can check date of birth and photo. of course, do you think the British goverment would be that stupid (dont answer that question.. ) and let someone change their "identity" and and not have it linked to the previous name and not have that information accessible to people who need to know someone has changed names, ie immigration officers ? if it was that easy and that certain there was no link between the names, every self respecting Jihadist called "Mohammed" in the UK would be changing their names by deed poll to "John Smith" and getting new passports I would think you will find within the machine readable codes on the passport, there will be a "code" or "number" which tells an immigration officer that someone has "changed details" in a passport, it may not give the immigration guy the data of the previous name, but it may indicate some has had a passport under another name.. although not related to Thailand, there is question when entering Singapore about having entered Singapore under another name
OJAS
Looks like the OP has found the perfect solution to all the passport renewal hassles we Brits living in LOS have to suffer these days. Just overstay by 4 years, change your name by deed poll and, BANG, HMPO issue you with a new passport within 3 days! No need for a double trip to With-It Tower from wherever you live in LOS, and no 18-week+ wait for your new passport while your application gathers dust in in orange box in an HMPO conference room! Memo to self - start overstaying here in 2019 so as to guarantee a smooth renewal process when my existing passport expires in 2023!
Cypress Hill
<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script> Someone needs to learn about biometrics and facial recognition software. And someone needs to learn that the capabilities of real world facial recognition software falls far short of the fantasy variant in use in Hollywood. The only 100% way to ensure re-entry into the Kingdom following blacklisting etc relies on good old corruption. Chap I know got busted in an office in Thonglor without work permit. Along with about 6 others, he was bundled into court, convicted, blacklisted and on a plane back to Europe in 24 hours flat. Paid THB250,000 of which 150K took care of the court records, 50K sorted the immigration officer who deleted the mark on the database; which left 50K for the "broker" fee. In the 18 months since he was busted, he's been back 3 times on tourist visas to see his girlfriend. No one's said a single word to him.
Time Traveller
you changed your name just to get back into thailand? Is this a joke? Hope you also did the plastic nose and fake fingerprints as well because biometrics are being rolled out in many countries so they may in the future find the skeletons in your closet. Just curious but why would you go to such desperate measures to return when immigration already told you that you were not welcome?
