Internet Nomads

Featured Replies

Hi Guy's,

I am quite new to the forum but not new to Asia or traveling and laying my hat, as it were.

I am an Internet Nomad, and have been for only a short time and making my money on the US stock market trading stock and index Options. How many other BM's are or classify them selves as Internet Nomads and what do you do and where are you? Do you move around for tax reasons (I know Thailand does not charge tax on earnings outside of Thailand) and how do you fill your time outside of what you do. Any reason why you do what you do?

I love the freedom I get from what I do and am interested in other peoples experiences if you are inclined to share.

Thanks...

Oh Bloody Hell not again!

Not again what? People introducing themselves and getting to know others? Not all of us have a 2,000+ post count. Slow your role, pal.

Why bother answering?

Also, OP, you may want to double check whether you aren't liable for taxes:

Taxpayers are classified into “resident” and “non-resident”. “Resident” means any person residing in Thailand for a period or periods aggregating more than 180 days in any tax (calendar) year. A resident of Thailand is liable to pay tax on income from sources in Thailand as well as on the portion of income from foreign sources that is brought into Thailand. A non-resident is, however, subject to tax only on income from sources in Thailand.

Fair enough. But one could still live a relatively nomadic lifestyle and be in the kingdom over 180 days. I know because it's something I had to look into myself.

Noted, thanks.

Oh Bloody Hell not again!

Not every poster lives on the forum and has their jimmies rustled by this topic to the extent of you.

@OP I think you'll find most nomads don't pay taxes as you need a work permit to pay taxes, and securing a work permit requires hiring 4 Thais, not something nomads want to do.

Sorry to hear that., but your question is out there so lets wait for an answer.

The best of luck.

What I do to take a break is travel down to one of the Islands for 3-4 days and leave my Laptop behind, turn my phone off and relax.

BTW Digital Nomad is a bad word on Thai visa.

What do you mean by BM?

Post condoning illegal activity removed.

;) Sticks & Stones...

If you trade US stocks how do you pay taxes?

I mean you must pay as brokerage accounts take a lot of information from you and forward it to the relevant country.

If you are paying taxes then I am not even sure the term digital nomad applies here.

You have investments outside Thailand.

Ok, Katoom, let's be civil. What visa are you on?

Yes, if he's investing in the US stock market, he will be paying taxes. There's no way to hide from the IRS.

I don't pay taxes and when enrolling on a trading platform in the US you declare your tax residency as an Alien Along with your Tax Identity Number (TIN) from wherever you are tax domiciled and therefore are not liable for US taxes. I just stick to the 180 day rule otherwise.

Yes, but you are supposed to pay taxes in your own country.

To open a brokerage account they would ask for a lot of personal information I assume?

Aren't you scared about potential tax liability?

Nope, all paid up and as I said I keep to the 180 day limit. I am tax domiciled in Hong Kong and have cleared everything there and made a declaration to the Home Affairs Office when I withdrew my Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) that I was leaving the territory. Of course I am allowed back as I have permanent residency but to all intents and purposes I am off their radar. Have not paid taxes in the UK since 1989 either so I am all good.

Functional ThaiVisa translation of Post #1: Hi! I'm an internet nomad and I just want to know if there are TV Members out there as smart as I am?

TV answer: Unless the Thai girls screw you for free, you're still an also-ran.
