Paiboon's Talking Thai-English Dictionary app and iOS8

I'm posting this for Benjawan

Important: If you can avoid it, do not upgrade to iOS 8.0 yet!

Problems caused by iOS8: As often happens with major Apple iOS releases, iOS 8.0 has caused huge problems with a large number of apps. In our case, Apple iOS 8.0 bugs prevent you from accessing five app features: "Find Words Inside," "Real-World Fonts," "Explain Spelling," "Google Thai Word," and "Clear History" (depending on your device, you may see an app hang or a blank menu). Apple iOS 8.0 has also broken our custom app Thai Script/Thai Sound keyboards. You can regain full Thai Search functionality, and full Thai Sound functionality (if you use the TLC, Tiger, LP, TYT, T2E, Thai Govt+, or Easy Thai systems), by choosing Apple's keyboard in our app Settings screen. For other Thai Sound systems like Paiboon+, you will not be able to type the special vowel letters, but in our app Settings screen, you can choose the Apple keyboard then enable display of Paiboon+ alongside another main system used for Thai Sound searching. The rest of the app works fine, so you can still search, read and hear entries in all three sections and access our comprehensive guide to speaking and reading Thai.

What we are working to fix: Apple often follows major iOS releases with "oops" updates to fix the problems they have caused, but we are not going to wait for this. We are currently working on a free minor upgrade to our app that we hope can work around these new iOS 8.0 Apple problems, provide full-screen support for iPhone 5 users, and correct some occasional app hangs seen by some iPhone users (relating to tethering or phone ringing). Because even a minor upgrade requires a massive testing effort and an onerous Apple app submission process, we cannot be sure when the upgrade will be ready for you to download, but based on earlier experience we can say end of October 2014 at the earliest. For the latest status, check back on word-in-the-hand.com .

Major update with more words and features: In the longer term, we are happy to report that we are nearing completion of a massive free upgrade to your dictionary app that has been more than two years in the making. This free upgrade will include thousands of new Thai words suggested by users, thousands of complete, ready-to-use customizable phrases divided into 200+ practical categories like "Hotel," "Ordering Food," "Renting a Place," and "Price Haggling," a Favorites feature that lets you save and organize words and phrases you are learning, full-text search that lets you find words in the middle of phrases, an updated iOS7/8 look, and a complete rewrite of the internals of the app to allow us to issue more frequent cross-platform upgrades in the future. Our first step will be to release a standalone phrasebook-only app, then fold all of its features and vocabulary into your dictionary app as a free upgrade. We cannot predict an exact date for this major release yet, but we have been working long and hard on this new app and app update and are excited to get them in the hands of our customers as soon as we can.

Thanx for posting!

I am also having a problem with the keyboard disappearing and getting an "empty hole" where the keyboard should be. This happens in the English-Thai translation and seems to happen if I switch to a 3rd-party keyboard (which I try to avoid now). I have found to remedy is to go into another app that uses a keyboard and make sure I have the system Keyboard active. It then seems to carry over to TalkingThai.

Mine is working fine and I use i every day - one of the best things I ever bought!
