Street food - boiled peanuts

Where in bangkok is there a street cart selling boiled peanuts ?

I've been here 6 months and seen none anywhere I've been.

Any detailed locations where I might find a vendor would be greatly appreciated. Also any tips on how to ask for them in thai.

I live in OnNut but would go anywhere on BTS or MRT to get some boiled peanuts.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Did you try Tesco or Big C?

Both got them.

Thanks. I've obviously not looked in the supermarket properly. Don't suppose you know what they're called in Thai ? I've tried to repeat what google translate tells me they are called but get blank looks.

That's fantastic. Many thanks costas. I will go look tomorrow. Are they still wet or have they been dried?

Would also like to try street ones too.....if they do exist :) So if any street food gurus out there have any tips please do let me know.

I hope the responders understand what you mean by boiled peanuts. You must be from the south in the states where they are everywhere, but you will not find anyone in California that would have any idea what you are talking about. When I got to Pattaya 3 years ago, they sold them everywhere on the street, but I cannot find them for the last year. The wet ones I mean. Plenty of dry ones to be had. As you know, once they are boiled their shelf life is very short, but wow, are they good.

The boiled peanuts in Thailand are boiled in plain water,

The ones i'm use to are boiled in a light brine.

Not the same, but still pretty good.

I dont recall seeing any sidewalk carts with tooa,

but i normally see them at the market selling for 10 - 20 baht/cup.

or the walking vendor. Good luck.

Yeah I'd prefer the wet ones boiled in brine.

Never tried dried ones. Part of the appeal is the slippery texture they have when wet.

What markets have you seen them in ?

Lol, I moved to OnNut because I thought they'd have lots of nuts. It's all lie :)

I would have thought On Nut is the place for nuts wink.png

Lol , moved there a decade ago into Suk 81. Stayed in PR Mansion for a year or so.

Arrived sane left completly Nuts .

:-)

Ahhh , the days when I still had them rose tinted glasses on.

Miss them.

The only time I've purchased them was from an older man selling them in bags on the street between Sukhumvit sois 22 and 26 on the even soi side of the street (and I'm pretty sure it's between 24-26 but let's go with the larger estimated area).

I wasn't impressed. Soggy peanuts, not in the least bit salty, not much flavor, IMO. Either 10 or 20 thb per bag, can't remember.

I don't think they are supposed to be salty. Any way quite how you'd make the nut salty when they are boiled/steamed in their shell I don't know. Brine might help a little but it would be just that a little.

Soggy is good for those of us who are dentally challenged.

well! - here I was, pondering Life, Universe and Everything (about boiled peanuts), when...

...wifey slaps a bowl of them down in front of me

That's her hand retreating - and a minute later, I now also have an opened young coconut in my grasp, ready for drinking...

Tifino, nice, I'm not in the least bit jealous.

What time can I come round with my begging bowl ?

Will try to locate said gentleman on suk between 22-26. I like em soggy, just wish they were a lil salty too...
