Palestinian leader accuses Israel of 'genocide' at UN

NEW YORK: -- Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has accused Israel of carrying out a "war of genocide" in Gaza in his speech at the UN General Assembly.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said it was a "speech of incitement filled with lies".

Mr Abbas said Israeli "war crimes" in Gaza should be punished, but stopped short of saying he would take the issue to the International Criminal Court.

The 50-day conflict left about 2,100 Palestinians and 73 Israelis dead.

The UN says that most of the Palestinian dead were civilians. Israel says the high civilian death toll was because of Hamas fighters launching attacks from residential areas, including schools and mosques, drawing return fire.

One can almost feel the venom dripping out of the above article, usually, commenting

on such baseless statements are waste of time, but just one of the baseless comment

you have made that Israel never led one peace initiative...

2001, Clinton-Arafat- Israeli Pm Barack at Sharem a shiek offered the Palestinians 95%

their land back in echange for peace...... Arafat flatly refused....

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2001/jan/03/israel2

In 2008, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert offered to withdraw from almost the entire West Bank and partition Jerusalem on a demographic basis. Another blown opportunity by the Palestinians.

Are you disingenuous or just ill-informed? Abbas was told NOT to sign the offer by Israel's Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni, as she was replacing Ohlmert while he resigned to fight allegations of corruption. Abbas did not know who he should be dealing with. He appears to have made the mistake of thinking that he might get a better deal from Livni. In retrospect, a huge mistake. Your inference that Abbas somehow did not want peace or the realisation of a 2 state solution is way off the mark. He was just misread the entrails.

Strange how the Palestinians leadership keep making "mistakes" over and over again.. all the while

looking for the best deal they can get while their people wallowing in misery and poverty which

plays to the agenda of the PA leadership to solicit more donations and more pity from the world...

Israel is armed with nuclear bombs and missiles but not hundreds and hundreds ... They have these and their enemies know it. They are possessed as defense - under the idea similar to MAD - mutually assured destruction - but not exactly the same as the old concept ...Nuclear armed just in case a host Islamic nation such as Iran decided to send a nuclear missile to Israel or give nuclear arms to terrorists. The threat of nuclear retaliation by Israel cannot be done away with by any aggressor because Israel has a few hidden away with the delivery aircraft and they could never be found in time by any invader who brought millions of armed fighters to overwhelm Israel or plant a nuclear mine in the ground to be detonated. Any host country sponsoring such activity would as they say 'reap the whirlwind'... To top it off Israel has a least five or more German built - very modern diesel submarines with Poseidon / Polaris type nuclear tipped missiles... One can only imagine where they are stationed ... almost anywhere within reach of the Middle East...

So long as Hamas is willing to fight to the death of every last Plalstinian, peace between Israel and Palestine will remain elusive. The Palestine Authority must find a credible and reliable Arab sponsor to rid itself of Hamas rule so that it alone can negotiate with Israel in a nonthreatening environment. Such association may require the Sponsor to occupy Palestine to completely suppress and eliminate Hamas control and terrorism. Egypt seems a likely candidate.

Good post, and just to add an not widely known fact that Israel was seriously thinking of deploying

it's " judgment day's weapon " back in 1973 war where it seem for a while that the Arab armies may over run the country,

but they have managed to rally back to win the war...

If Israel intended to commit 'genocide', they would have wiped the Palestinians out when they attacked Israel in 1948 or in the other wars that the Arabs started and lost afterwards. Instead, the Palestinians have one of the fastest growing populations in the world with one of the highest obesity rates. As usual Abbas is just blowing smoke up the world's posterior.

genocide is too hard, but they try hard to get them away and take their land.

When you steal the farmers land, than he'll be the next terrorist or freedom fighter.

On the other hand shooting rockets won't make Israel more friendly as well.

I remember that a few years ago I took the ferry from Surat to Samui and I was sitting next to a few Israeli soldiers . They were talking english that everybody could understand when they said " a good Arab is a dead Arab , we will kill them all ...! Then they have been joking and having a good time . PURE RACISM ! Just as bad as Hitler !

...

Some moronic soldiers shooting the sheit on a boat are as bad as Hitler?

Does anyone actually believe that?

Back to reality.

20 percent of Israeli citizens are Arabs.

The potential Palestinian state will not be inviting in ANY Jews. None.

Which side is more racist?

No, of course there is no denying there is racism among Israeli Jews. There is racism in every country in the world. Including Thailand.
