Authorities are attempting to identify a foreigner in his 30s who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run early yesterday morning trying to walk his bicycle across the street at the intersection of Monivong and Sihanouk boulevards in Phnom Penh.

Chev Hak, director of traffic police in the city, said authorities are contacting embassies and the body is being kept temporarily at the Stung Meanchey pagoda.

“We are seeking for his family or embassy to confirm his identity,” he said.

Police believe a white Range Rover travelling north on Monivong Boulevard slammed into the man at approximately 1:30am.

Police said a young woman abandoned the car, which they have since impounded.

So far, none of the embassies have claimed the victim, said Mom Sitha, director of the city’s office for foreigners.

“We have sent the picture of the victim to all the embassies and they said they are having difficulty searching for his identity,” he said.
