DNA sample collection continues in Koh Tao tourists murder case

I guess this means that the 200 DNA results that were going to ready yesterday all drew a blank.

Another "Oh look over there" tactic to divert attention from what the cops really know.

Yes. And what happened to those samples which were sent to a specialist DNA lab in Singapore for further testing? All testing now being done in BKK. Maybe they are short of funding?

Johnathan Head quotes Pol Gen on lack of funds.

Did the "influential figures" and their family members on the island ever give any DNA sample that was tested?

Still unclear but I don't think so. It was stated in some reports that the 2 interviewed about 5 days ago did give samples, however some reports at the same time said 2 people refused to give samples. Of more concern to me was that the police apparently cleared them immediately after their interviews, as DNA samples take a couple of days to process it would appear the DNA evidence (if taken) was ignored. Just 1 sample from any member of that family would potentially clear them all... or, as I still suspect, prove a relative did it.

After following this case I must admit, that I have lost a lot of my previous love for Thailand. Actually, I have come to the conclusion, that I feel sorry for this country and its people, who I previously admired despite all its faults, political problems etc.

I really feel sorry for Thailand becoming an unsafe place of no empathy, moral and ethics. I feel sorry for the normal decent Thai-people, who will be (and have been) the only victims of its high level of corrupt officials driven by personal greed and lack of national pride.

When the military came in, I really hoped and believed that things would change for the sake of Thailand and its people. But I now realize that nothing really has changed or ever will. The amount of selfishness, lack of trust in its officials and personal greed is simply too overwhelming to ever be fixed. The corruption-level has already hit the "tipping-point", the point of no return. Nobody with power here can see beyond it and the sad fact is that one man, can not change the corrupt and greedy mindset of millions.

Thailand is not a place for social affection and kindness towards others. It is a place for personal survival and personal gain, no matter what basic moral, ethical and human ideals must be put aside to reach the goal. The only thing, that has become important in the mind of Thai-people is money and nothing else matters.

Most Thais will say they love their country but the fact is that most only truly love their families, because they have all come to know, that the people who should ensure their daily safety and bring progress to all, are deeply corrupt and only thinking of themselves. The result of all this, is clearly being seen now and it is also being shown to the world.

I really feel deeply sorry for all the decent Thai-people, I know. They are out there, but they are no longer the majority. A true miracle is needed to help the country and its people, because one thing is for sure... Thailand has lost its "Smile" and its reputation as a paradise on earth, filled with people full of innocence, joy and pride in their religion and country. And for years to come Thailand will suffer hardly, from what it has become and still is.

To me it does not really matter anymore, who they bring forward and claim are the killers in this case. Because the fact is, that there will always be doubt if the claimed killers are just scapegoats. And that is exactly what, will bring this country to its knees, in all ways.

A country with so much potential, but ruined by personal greed and corruption. Truly sad for not only its people, but also the country it self.

I know quite a few people like that and reckon the same goes for much of humanity at large really.. sad but true my friend

now, how to make it end?

"how to make it end?" easy just leave Thailand ... there's a whole world out there!

Man says police beat him after he declines to be witness in Koh Tao murder cases

Tue, 30/09/2014 - 18:35 | by taweporn

A Thai man said he was beaten up by police after he turned down the police’ offer to give him reward money if he agreed to be a witness in the murder case of of the two British tourists in Thailand’s touristic island of Koh Tao, southern Surat Thani province, according to ASTV-Manager online.

The report says Pornprasit Sukdam, 37, on Tuesday complained with Kobchai Saowalak, kamnan of Koh Tao sub-district, and asked for protection.

Pornprasit said the police detained him on Monday 1.30pm. During the interrogation, the police investigators persuaded him to agree to pretend to have knowledge of the incident, Pornprasit said. The police allegedly offered him 700,000 baht (about 21,600 USD) reward and guaranteed that he has the witness status. However, since he was not involved with the crime and did not hold knowledge related to it, Pornprasit declined the police’s offer.

That made the police angry, he said. The police allegedly beat him up before released him on Monday 6.30pm.

He decided to tell this story to others since the police planned to interrogate him again on Tuesday and he feared to be beaten up again.

He added that he does not plan to pursue case against the police, but wants to assert his innocence. He is willing to cooperate with the police, but not by force.

Meanwhile, kamnan of Koh Tao sub-district urged the police not to use violence with the suspects and not to arrest a scapegoat.

Pornprasit is a taxi driver on Koh Tao and member of the Sun Service Football team. There was a football match held on the day of the murders. The team members are now the focus of the police investigators.

The bodies of Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found with severe head wounds on September 15.

Makes you wonder how many suspects have been beaten during this investigation. Great police work!

This is the deep core foundation of the kingdom. Any other notable positive charataristics are just dust on the surface.

Easy for you to say passing through on your 2 week holiday with your backpack!

Some of us are long time residents, who have invested in Thailand, both economically and emotionally.

You can't just walk away from your life.

And despite the odds, we still hope, that things will improve here. But to be honest, we have a very bumpy road ahead of us!sad.png

Aaaaand the "Koh Tao Handbook of how to not get raped and your face bashed in with a garden hoe" reads:

Rule 1) stay in the party zones only, you enter killzones (rest of Koh Tao) on your own risk.

Rule 2) get into an argument with a family member of the local mafia, call home and say goodbye since basically you are done.
Rule 3) never, ever attempt to disturb a local police officer when in need for help, because they are employees of the people who will kill you anyway.
Rule 4) drop all your valuables in the designated container in your room for easier confiscation by hotel personell after you have been killed.
Rule 5) wear the ugliest and most unsexy dresses you can find, and DON'T even dare to wear makeup to avoid arousing potential killers.
Rule 6) pretend that your marriage, engagement, etc. is an unhappy one to avoid potential killers' jealousy that could lead to your death.
Rule 7) don't wear weapons - makes the killing easier and more fun for your killer.
Rule 8) please be warned that you will be charged with murder if you kill an assailant in self defense. Learn to let go!

Rule 9) please be aware of the fact that the tourist curfew starts at 08:00 p.m. and ends at 07:00 a.m.

Rule 10) give money you would have spent partying during curfew time to the local disco or bar mafiosi in an envelope during day time to keep the Koh Tao economic system in balance.

Many thanks for your support and have a nice holiday!

Wow everybody should read this again, it truly is spot on. The Thailand of old has been bought and paid for by the minority power holders that scam and cheat and lie, with no true police force. How sad. This country has been on a continual humanitarian decline for the last ten years. Way too late to change now.

What really disturbs me is that everyone probably knows who the killers are but because of greed and power they won get arrested. In fact they are exempt from DNA testing also. What a farce this investigation is. Why doesn't the PM do something? I thought at least he was honest. I had hope in the junta, but it has now been completely eliminated.

Probably? It would probably disturb me if everyone probably knew? Probably? On what facts do you base that? Probably none?

Maybe you probably knew what he meant? Upon what basis of probable knowledge to you reject inzman's case?

Lets face it they 'Blue It' already. They are just playing their organ while waiting for it all to blow away. Those poor young people have just turned into pickings' for the sons of teflon coated Thais pleasure. I wonder who got the million Baht?

Why does Thai corruption have to make everything bad and dirty become invisible?

He doesn't have probable cause for his conclusion.
