Bangkok, 30 September, 2014 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is lending its full support to Central Pattana, Thaicom and BEC Tero Entertainment to stage the ‘NASA Space Exhibition’ in Bangkok from 1 December, 2014, to 1 February, 2015. This is the first time that this type of event is being held in the Southeast Asian region.

TAT Governor, Mr. Thawatchai Arunyik said, “This news says simply everything about the capability of Thailand as the region’s leader in space technology and initiative, especially as all countries are moving towards the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015. It also brings much joy to the Thai people, being a part of the grand celebrations to mark the auspicious 87th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Thailand’s Father of Technology.”

The NASA Space Exhibition is also set to commemorate the 180th anniversary of Thai-US relations. Held under the theme, a Human Ride Adventure, the event is set to take place at the Bangkok Convention Centre, on the 5th floor of Central Plaza Ladprao.

The exhibition will be divided into four zones: Space technology, Ride, Souvenir, Space Café zones.

The largest zone, Space technology will showcase more than 400 pieces of space technology; such as, space rockets, space suit, satellite, space cars, space robots, space menu, space bathroom, space communication devices and space shuttle, as well as operating engines, space electronic devices, space station and ground station.

Visitors will have the chance to marvel at an amazing range of NASA spacecraft, starting from Mercury and Gemini to Apollo and the Space Shuttle. Russian space technology will also be on display including replicas of the Sputnik satellite and lunar survey rover Lunokhod.

Other highlights include a replica of Neil Armstrong’s space suit, two Titan 1 rocket engines, a scale model of the most powerful rocket ever successfully flown, Saturn V, Apollo Lunar Module cockpit and ascent engine, and a Apollo Command Module replica with a real simulator/trainer interior and a replica of the Command Module’s main hatch.

The Ride zone will focus on thrilling space experiences including G Force Simulator – a force of up to 1G to simulate the forces that astronauts experience during a Space Shuttle launch and landing on its return to Earth, The Globe – a circular screen that allows 360-degree views and interactive displays and information about the Sun and planets in the solar system: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, plus the dwarf planet Pluto, and Photo Activity Club that offers the chance for visitors to take pictures in space suits while they are experiencing weightlessness in space.

The Souvenir zone is set to offer a wide variety of space souvenirs; such as, flight jackets, rocket models, space key chains, pen and tag hanging used in the Mission Control room, copyrighted space items; such as, Angry Bird in Star Wars outfits and books about space missions.

The Space Café zone will provide the opportunity for visitors to experience space atmosphere and special space cuisine; such as, Neil Armstrong’s lunch menu or Charles Duke’s dinner meal.

Entry tickets are 500 Baht each and reservations can be made from now at www.thaiticketmajor.com.

“This news says simply everything about the capability of Thailand as the region’s leader in space technology and initiative"

So their space capability consists of renting space in a shopping mall for an exhibition!

And what does "especially as all countries are moving towards the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015" have to do with it? If they want to ASEAN-ify it, shouldn't it be promoted as more of a regional thing and less of a Thai thing then?

Is there anything the farlang knockers here on Thaivisa like about about Thailand. Tell you what, if i disliked a country as much as you lot seem to do, I would not be living in it. Lets start a post on how it should be run Falang style shall we?

Look we are calling it as is.

If you buy ""case being solved ."""".Thailand leads world ...""

,,death was accident ....go for it

As for hating the place might just be the current mind set

As for liking Thailand ..

That's another thing

Thailand is the centre of the Universe so very appropriate NASA is finally paying a visit.

On a serious note: despite that TAT strange claim that Thailand is the leader of space technology in the region, it could actually be a very interesting exhibition to see.

If by the "region's leader in space technology and initiative" he means the ASEAN region then there is some justification for this historically.

Thailand was the first of the ten ASEAN countries to get a small satellite into orbit in 1998 - the Thai+paht satellite done with Surrey University in the UK, and in 2008 Thailand was the first to have its own remote sensing satellite, but since then Thailand has started to slip badly as the satellite launched in 2008 has now exceeded its lifetime and due to the political disturbance a replacement program has not yet been agreed, even though this was studied in detail last year.

In the meantime the other ASEAN countries are forging ahead - Indonesia has a 10-year program and has launched its second satellite, Singapore and Malaysia both have remote sensing satellites under way and are looking to a continuous program and Vietnam has the most ambitious program of all, it has just launched one satellite made in Europe, has another one on order from Belgium, and will take two radar satellites from Japan together with the facilities to build the second satellite in Hanoi.

Thailand does have some possibilities, in Sri Racha it has a new space center with some major companies involved from Europe and North America (Including Airbus Industries, Thales, MDA and Swedish Space, and possibly soon some of the major US players), but as yet there is not sufficient funding to take advantage of this international goodwill to partner with Thailand.

Thailand is one of the most vocal proponents of regional space integration, and has tried many times to get multi-country projects going but this has usually failed due to the other countries all wanting to lead - or as in the case of the climate campaign with NASA two years ago, stupidity on the part pf the Thai politicians.

The fact that NASA even want to be seen again in Thailand after how they were treated last time is amazing

Great news ! Definitely will go and try to convince a couple of Thai friends to join me !

A couple of my Thai friends will not be thrilled

"Entry tickets are 500 Baht each"

Maybe find them this BBC two part series "Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets", arrange a BIG screen and good speakers and organise a "space' party for them.

PS personally I prefer the original BBC version, not the shortened journey American version.
