This story came from German Peter of Orn's bookstores, who reads the Thai papers:

This big, tall swing in the Dusit area of BKK got old and rikketty.

As it is one of the nation’s symbols, it had to be replaced.

As all the trees had been cut long ago, it was hard to find any tall enough.

But what ever are national forest preserves for anyway?

In Uttaradit, 4 suitably tall trees were found.

Monks came to bless them – and the chainsaws used to cut them down.

Weeks later (this very recently mind you) big floods washed much in the area away

(just before floods swept on down and inundated Sukotai – perhaps a month ago).

I suggest those chainsaws might be available for purchase now…

Don't ya think, sometimes, people just lose all sense of proportion?
