Cambodia to organize first national culinary competition next week

PHNOM PENH, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 Cambodian chefs from hotels, restaurants and other culinary establishments will join the first Cambodia Culinary Challenge, which will be held here from Oct. 8 to 10, organizers said Wednesday.

Chef Luu Meng, president of the Cambodia Hotels Association, said the competition aimed to foster traditional Cambodian culinary methods and promote authentic Cambodian culinary philosophy and culture. "The competition is created to help people around the world to gain further insight into the characteristics of Cambodian cuisine and to appreciate the Cambodian culinary culture,"he told a press conference.

The event is hosted by the Cambodia Tourism Federation in cooperation with the Cambodia Chefs Federation.

Hak Lina, president of the Cambodia Restaurants Association, said the registration is free for Cambodian chefs and more than 100 candidates have already registered for the contest.

According to a press release, each competition team is made up of three chefs and is required to submit recipes for four dishes.

The event will take place at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center.
