Has anyone here applied for one from Hat Yai immigration ? using this application form ?

http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/pdf/res_cert.pdf

My Thai wife signed the rental contract which ran for one year and for the past 4 years the landlord is happy to run from month to month.

Has anyone some advice ? Maybe a letter from the landlord in Thai would be the best approach.

I never quite know with HY immigration, the form could be screwed into a ball and thrown back at me, or I could be issued with a free letter in 20 mins with a smile.

Why is nothing easy with HY immigration, If you call 1111 they say just go to HY immigration with your PP.

HY immigration called me a dick and told me I have to get a letter from 'kon song' where i do my test, provided me with a sample letter which requests them to authorise my address .. then I return to them who confirm my address with the wives Tabian Baan then I return next week to take the test.

Call 1111 to confirm, they now say I need to go to HY metropolitan office to get a certificate of residence.

Call to the missus to work out where 'Kon Song' is .. Its on the old Songkhla road, by Koh Hong police station but immigration told me to go to the test centre.

1) I want to transfer the green book for a bike over from the wives name to mine.

2) Take a driving test.

I tried a couple of years ago with Hat Yai immigration, a total waste of time, but I did succeed in getting a signed and sealed letter from the Ampur confirming my address, though that wasn't straight forward either. The letter was for the Krungsri Bank when I wanted to get a safe deposit box.

Cheers.

Seems like HY immigration seem to have negotiated a deal whereby they elevate themselves of any paperwork, or checking. I called in at 3.45 today and the entire crew were watching football, screaming at the TV.

The missus read through the sample letter, that immigration gave me. I have to visit the test centre tomorrow, request a letter which asks immigration to confirm my addy, visa and such. Immigration want to see a copy of the tabian baan, and my passport, I guess i make copies of my papers, stamp it and send me back to the test centre.

Lets get this one finished then I can start on the moving the title of the bike over ..

Im convinced the only reason HY immigration exists is for the lucrative stamping of WP's of immigrant work for the rubber factories, etc.

Many Immigration Offices, including Hat Yai, don't issue Certificates of Residence - you need either a letter from your Embassy or your WP. Both are accepted by the Land Transport Department.

Really ?

This wouldn't be a certificate of residence that i didn't get from HY immigration today.

It took a little bit of traveling back and forth, but I got it. Its not as easy as filling in a simple form and its also a free service.

For some reason, it was a bit 'cloak and dagger' I had sealed envelopes that i came home, steamed open and scanned the documents before resealing and taking to immigration and the test centre, but I'm happy to forward an example of the letter and procedure if needed by anyone.

Im pretty sure the letter will work with LTO and a way to get a bank account without a WP.

What does it say?

What does what say ?

The certificate. It certifies my residence ( against the wives tabian ban ), that I'm the guy in the photo, that my visa is an non-o ( they kindly left out the fact its a year multi ) and when I entered and when my current stamp is up.

I also phoned the tessaban yesterday, they offer a similar service, i will drop in ( and maybe the ampur ) next week, to see if i can get a similar document to change the green book on the bike, because I hate that rude guy at immigration with the specs shouting in my face. There seem a couple of options without forking out money to the embassy in Bangkok.

Residence certificates are only good for one month AFAIK so you won't be able to keep using that copied version indefinitely.

But yes, Hat Yai Imm is <removed> useless. I have been all over Thailand and never experienced anything like it. They are incompetent, quite lazy, very uppity and have you jumping through hoops, and there is hardly any customers! Compare that with Chiang Mai where they have at least 100x the throughput and everything gets done timely and with a smile.

If you have a problem with them I urge you to send a complaint to Bkk headquarters -- I think there's an email address on the Imm site. Probably won't get you anywhere, but if more people keep sending them in someone up there might eventually get on the phone.

Btw, I find the mouthy female to be the worst but they can all be dicks.

I was under the impression this was only good for one shot, I took a scan just incase I need to prove something in the future or show the tessaban / ampur to get something similar. Maybe I can get the green book moved on the (colour) scan. With a bit of luck, I will pass my test next week, and change the book - I will never need one again and never set foot in HY immigration ever again.

I just got back from Mukdahan, after a little holiday in Laos - and new 12month multi-entry visa in a new passport - when HY immigration saw the visa they questioned why i had it and said i should really be on an extension of stay, I gave them the line that I often left the country, but told me this was not the correct visa ?? I was scared he was going to cancel the visa for one moment.

When I was changing passports the Muk IO's were amazingly helpful, everything was done in 10 mins. When I returned to Thailand from Laos there were 2 officials in uniforms out front welcoming and joking with everyone arriving, 2x immigration helpers filling out TM7's for laoatians.

Its a far cry from the "service" from the Malay borders or HY immigration office.

That's what I thought ...

Never had a problem with the guy. Just have your paperwork in order before dumping it on him. I don't think I've ever spent more than 5-10 minutes in the place.

Not saying this to gloat...lol.... but I am very surprised at all this.

I got both motorcycle and car licences in one day. It did take 2 trips to Songkhla testing offices, but all I had was my NZ drivers licence, photocopies of passport and rental agreement.

Songkhla sent me back to HY to get the immigration letter, which was produced in about 20 minutes, then back to Songkhla......licenses given after colour and reaction tests.

The middle aged guy at Hat Yai Immigration is ok if you treat him politely.

I agree about the guy in HY Immig.....he is quite a pleasant person to deal with. Always says hello if he is not too busy.

Residence certificate / letter only good for 1 week to a month depending who needs it, well that's the case on Samui with some government departments.

They always require the original. So when I got my car & bike licences they required 2. At Samui it's 500 Baht for one 700 for 2 rolleyes.gif
