Recently purchased a 4.3 inch flip up monitor and a backup camera. I think I have the camera area figured out. It's the power lead to the monitor that I am a little confused.

The camera came with a yellow RCA video cord that also has a red wire connection at each end. From my understanding the camera end of the red wire attaches to the hot side of the backup light. The monitor end attaches somewhere to the monitor. This is where I am confused.

I haven't received the monitor. From looking at pictures the monitor has 3 RCA leads, one white, one yellow, and one red. It also comes with a power cable with a female plug that fits the red RCA lead. The other end of the power cable has a red and black wire.

My question is this. Does the red wire from the video cable attached to the red wire of the power cable of the monitor? So when the car goes into reverse, power goes to the rear backup lights which sends power to the monitor. The only time the monitor would come on is when you switch the car to reverse. Is that how it is suppose to work? I will not be using the monitor for anything else at this point except for assisting in backing up, so it coming on only when in reverse would be fine.

Unless there is a fourth connection on the monitor that I cannot see in the pictures, I'm thinking how I described above is the only way it can work. If there is a fourth connection, is enough power provided to that connection to operate the monitor or do I also need to hook up the monitor power cable?

One other question. The power to the backup light would also be providing power to the camera and the monitor. That's 3 items rather than the 1 it was designed for. Enough power to operate all 3 satisfactorily?

Thanks.

Does it not come with a wiring diagram ?

The camera didn't and it has the video cable with the red wire. The monitor has not arrived. Both are made in China, so would be surprised if there is a diagram in the monitor box.
