Wanted Russian attempts to Bribe Pattaya Immigration Police

PATTAYA: -- On Thursday Night, Immigration Officers detained a 32 year old Russian who is wanted in his native country in relation to a theft case dating back to 2010.

Police arrested Mr. Andrey Tsirp at the front of Soi 6 on the Pratamnuk Road, just before 7pm. The Russian Embassy had earlier requested Immigration to locate and arrest the man so he could be returned to Russia to face charges of theft.

When he was taken to the Immigration Office in Jomtien checks were made and Mr. Tsirp was found to possess an expired visa in his passport which stated he was permitted to remain in Thailand until 14th September.

During questioning Mr. Tsirp is alleged to have offered officers 700,000 Baht in cash to secure his release. The alleged bribe was not accepted and it was decided to charge him with attempting to bribe a Royal Thai Police Officer and Visa Overstay.

He must have really pissed off the RTP for them to charge him with attempted bribery. This is almost unheard of in this country.

If it were a simple overstay - he might not have had problems like this (depends on who he is dealing with), but with an outstanding warrant from another country for criminal activity.... it was probably just not worth it. They probably just felt it was best to get the foreign criminal out of the country. In cases like this there are just too many hands that must be greased to make it worth taking 700,000 and leaving a criminal on the streets. Best to secure the 700,000 in evidence lockup and deport the criminal and blacklist him. If in the future he wishes to return to face trial - then they still <cough, cough> have the evidence to convict him -- of course he has to get in the country first :o

The offer of a bribe was made but nowhere does it mention that such an amount of cash was actually there at hand and thus speculating on what might or might not happen to such money is just that - speculation. Again. you are reminded of the above moderator comment on libel and defamation laws and forum rules covering that.

FOUR posts have already been removed due to that.

No, No .......everyone is reading this wrong.

The Russian will be relieved of his money anyhow.

No need to take a bribe rather the money in question will somehow someway end up in the hands of the police officers involved.

The events that happened, as such, look good for the police.

Cheers

Not quite; in cases like these you need a connected thai to vouch for you

He apparently did not have that

I am concerned that the forum system is a little one sided. The bad guys can do what the hell they like and merchants can provided crap service but we are not allowed to make any comment which might 'harm' them??

Somebody needs to start a blog which collates complaints about such people and services.

Do not speculate about blogs that do not exist.

Are you sure it was bhat that he offered and not rubels?
With 700K bhat he can get away with anything almost.
Two options: since he was asked to be arrested by embassy with a proper tip of his where abouts ( I'm sure someone was following him all the time and was maintains communication with Russian Embassy) and right after the arrest the russain embassy was notified thus it gave them no option but to arrest and detain.
- deleted -
( just thoughts by the way)
I mean it's unusual for Thailand not to accept the bribe....
