Chiang Mai feels the arrival of winter

CHIANG MAI, 3 October 2014 (NNT) – Chiang Mai province has experienced mild winter in the morning. The early arrival of winter has prompted people to seek donations of warm clothes before the temperature begins to plunge.

A high pressure trough has been forecasted in the North and Northeast of Thailand this weekend. The temperature in the northern region is expected to drop 2-4 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists have advised residents to brace themselves against gusty winds and thundershowers during this time.

The amount of rain will also decrease as the temperature begins to decline. It is a common occurrence during the transition period when the rainy season is coming to an end. Fog will also be visible in the morning.

Residents living in the mountains have voiced their concerns for their well-being. The weather tends to become icy cold at the peak of winter. They could feel the cold at the end of last month and believe it will be even colder this year. Several agencies have been working together to provide locals with warm clothes early on before the temperature becomes unbearable.

They have seen the new Winter Collection from YSL and just couldn't wear anything that was so last year.

Seriously, same question is asked every year, including where do all the blankets go, never seen a satisfactory answer to that yet.

Bloody Hill, never been this warm in CNX for years around this time.

Sorry, not a penny from me for blankets etc. Every year the same. Don't you worry, the mountain people are used to it. Besides their summers are cooler too.

Give 'm blankets and after the winter it is all sold or whatever u can think of can happen to blankets.

What is this whining anyway. In Europe and America people face temperatures ranging from +30C to -20C/85F to 5F or worse.

Currently 30 degrees, could be hotter I agree, but it's not exactly cold

This thread is sure to bring out the 'I'm more acclimatized than you' brigade. biggrin.png

Or the ones looking to buy a radiator or oil heater to use 2 or 3 nights in one year.laugh.png

You must be KIDDING....was 32 degrees C when I walked into my upstairs Computer Room at 10 O'clock LAST NIGHT.

Bring on the Winter, with luck, a White Christmas would be nice.

I believe that they are talking about the Hill Tribe People that live further up in the mountains, the temp up there drops to the 60"s F or lower, that is Cold for these people, sometimes the very old and very young die, it can be prevented though Donations of warm clothes, so Please remember these people they are the original Thai Indians and they need are help and Support to be able to live there lives.

What did they do before we got here?

I have a jacket, I've had it for years, haven't used it since last February but it will be making a reappearance quite soon, and then will be put away again for use next year.

(btw, what is an original Thai Indian?)

Yes, this labeling of cities based on their airport designations is really annoying. CNX, LAX, LHR, PHX, SEA, ATL, etc.

It's Chiang Mai, Chiangmai, or occasionally, CM.

i was in a (very beautiful) Thai woman's shop this morning and she was complaining about how hot it has been since it stopped raining. It will be at least a few weeks until cool season begins.

Yup. staff arrived this morning and had their winter coats on. And I sleep now under 2 thin blankets. Fan on, no aircon.

It's cold! :D
