I would imagine they become unaffordable after 70/75. That's why i self insure. I don't see the point of paying premiums while you are well then get kicked out when you start to get ill.

Yes. I think you are right.

I can't believe no one is replying to this.

Does it mean that nobody in their 70's has health insurance?

Hmm or that they return to their home country at that age?

Unless you have some catastrophic risk coverage, you don't self-insure; you just have no insurance. What you have is a reserve. Whatever is in your reserve, that is what you have. No possiblility of, given an adverse incident, getting more than you put in.

Most farang who insure in Thailand have hospital insurance, not health insurance. The latter implies some coverage for office visits, out-patient care and prescriptions. While companies like BUPA offer add on options for out-patient care, the additional premium is usually about equal to the maximum you could ever hope to claim during the year. And, most companies here will only offer you continued coverage if you start insuring with them before 60 or even 55 ... but they may only show premiums up to ages in the 60's because you'll get whacked on an individual basis after some point heavily enough to discourage you from keeping the policy.

I have insurance that does indeed cover hospital, doctor office visits, prescriptions, dental work, eye glasses, etc. It was part of my retirement benefits from a business in the US. I send them receipts they reimburse me. It's free ... if you ignore the 25 years I worked for them.

One of the reasons few people are replying is probably because the subject exists in many, many threads already.
