BANGKOK: -- With Bangkok's average five-star hotel prices in the first half of this year facing big drop by 16% to US$186 a night, it is now ranked sixth among ten most affordable hotel destinations for US travelers.

But for four-star hotels, Bangkok came top as best values for US travelers with just US$100 per night, down 12% year-on-year.

This was revealed in the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI) released by Hotels.com, a leading online accommodation booking website with nearly 325,000 properties around the world, ranging from international chains and all-inclusive resorts to local favorites and bed & breakfasts, together with all the information needed to book the perfect stay.

According to HPI, the 10 most affordable five-star hotel destinations in the first half of 2014 were found in Europe and Asia with travelers paying an average of $210 or less per night.

For the cost of a five-star stay in Boston ($538), travelers were able to stay three nights in Pisa ($172/night; $516 total) or four nights in Warsaw ($130/night; $520 total) while making a luxurious five-star hotel their home.

Four of the most affordable five-star destinations also ranked among the 50 most popular international cities for Americans in the first half of the year – Istanbul (#18), Bangkok (#21), Beijing (#30) and Brussels (#50).

It said Bangkok saw one of the biggest decreases in average five-star prices during the timeframe, dropping 16% to $186.

During this period, Phuket hotel prices saw a 10 per cent fall to 3,250 baht. On the eastern seaboard, hotel prices in Pattaya recorded a 9 per cent drop to 2,503 baht, while Bangkok prices decreased 8 per cent to 2,235 baht.

There's a reason that Bangkok is cheaper. It's a shit hole.

Has Hotels.com actually stayed in all 325,000 of these properties they are rating, or are they full of crap like most other attention whores?

Congratulations for making the global Cheap Charlie list.

To celebrate, all Thai 5-Star hotels should raise their prices 10%.

Not just the price per night...also the quality.. The Holiday Inn in Bangkok would be / is an Intercontinental standard in Europe... facilities, service, room size etc etc. I would guess the same would be likely in the US.

Bangon picks and excellent example, Living between Jomtien and Portugal, I stay night before flying out of Bangkok at the Holliday Inn Silom, and the Holliday Inn Gatwick. when i arrive in UK. HI Silom is excellent and worthy of 5 star, excellent room around 70 US, . HI Gatwick is a xxxx hole for a tiny cramped room its usually well over 100 US.
