UK Tourist Visa - Previous visa refusal reference # required?

Featured Replies

Hello,

So I recently applied for a short-stay tourist visa for the UK (from the US). As a background, I was refused a UK visa last year (for Family Visitor). Afterwards, I reapplied with the correct application (Student visitor) and was issued a visa.

This year, I noticed when I was filling out the online application, I did not see any instruction that asked for a reference number for refusal visa for UK. So I thought it is not required (I could at least added this to the additional info all the way to the end but it slipped my mind).

What are the chances of being refused (for my current visa application) for not providing the reference number for previous visa refusal? I'm a bit paranoid due to being rejected last year.

Any thoughts from anyone with experience would be much appreciated! I could still forward the information to the UK visa centre but not sure if this reference number is necessary, since they haven't asked for any additional documents/info via email so far...

I wouldn't worry too much about not having the reference number, but you're right to disclose the previous refusal

Explain the circumstances including the date of the refusal and cross reference to the visa subsequently being issued, you can write the details in the section for additional information and maybe also in your covering letter.

The previous application should be noted in your passport by a small stamp and a reference number, the ECO should be able to use this to access the information if they thought there was a need.

Thanks for your reply! I didn't realize they stamped a refusal reference number in my passport, so that makes me feel a bit more relaxed.

I've already submitted my application two weeks ago, should I still email them to explain the previous refusal in more detail? I just basically filled out the date and type of visa refused and some other blanks they require a response to. Again, I have already submitted my application.

I don't think there are options to send supplementary information once the application has been submitted, I suppose you could fire off an email to cover yourself.

Though as you have declared it, and were subsequently issued issued with a visa, it really shouldn't be an issue.

Yes, emailing them additional info would be what I was planning on doing. I think I will wait until the day I expect to receive an email that tells me if I receive the visa or not, then I will email them plus adding info about the previous refusal reference number.

Thanks for your help!
