July 23, 200619 yr I'm only guessing here it might be more or it could be less but I reckon around a thousand people a day cross the land boarders of thailand for the purpose of re entering the same day to receive they're 30 day stamp or they're 3 months or whatever visa they may be on. Now im not sure what the cost is in malaysia, loa or burma but as most know it vary between 1000-1500 Baht depending on which boarder crossing or whatever plus the cost of the journey either by a visa run company or under by your own means the average the cost is about 3000 B. So thats a thousand people a day spending 3000 B. So if you put that together it's: 1000 x 3000 = 3000,000b x 7 = 2,100000b x 52 = 109200000b now put that over the next 10 -15 years Maybe its not as much as 1000 people per day but it's gotta be alot and its gotta be alot of money Thailand could be eraning. I'm sure I cant be the first person to think about this or roughly work it out. I mean surely an officer working on the boarder and thought, hang on we stamp hundreds of people out every day for free, and then stamp them back in for free, while the good ol camdodians are collecting 1000-1500 baht per person. Than again..........
July 24, 200619 yr The 2-3 million bucks a year you are talking about (And I doubt there are a thousand border runners a day) means nothing to Thailand. That would be a drop in the bucket compared to other revenue sources. On the other hand, Cambodia really needs all the help they can get. By the way, Malaysia does not charge for entry. Not sure about Mynamar, but I would expect it does charge. TH
