Local Drunk Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 "Koh Tao has been a favorite place of mine for more than a decade Murder and Rape island Koh Tao will be very famous nowMurder and rape happens everywhere. Yes that's true JD, but the crime itself isn't what's central in this or many other threads. It's the RTP's handling of the crime. There isn't a Thai that I know who believes that the police aren't covering it up. My Thai friends have questions as do I. None of them think that anyone other than the burmese guys did it. They question the legality of the investigation. They and I think it will all come out in the trial." Let's hope so

kieran2698 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Who is the TCT? Isn't this TAT's job? The TCT will ask airlines operating flights to the South and hotels on the island to offer special packages at attractive prices to lure visitors to the island. I would very suspicious of being lured anywhere. The TCT are a private organisation who represent the likes of the airlines and are the go between of government and tourist related industry. They are asking the airlines to produce cheaper tickets and also asking the government to produce an action plan. These are both good ideas. TAT are just a promotional authority, the best you could hope for them to produce is some pretty pictures of the beach, which will presumably be part of the forthcoming government action plan as a part of what I read into the TCT saying is, 'get TAT to do something'.

Popular Post englishoak Posted October 10, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Keyboard justice warriors are getting old and still hampering the investigation. Your speculation and guesses are having a negative impact on the case. You only need to have seen the Police follow the rumours round the island, to understand the harm you are doing. THE MAJORITY OF YOU DON'T EVEN *@!%ING LIVE HERE or are not related to the victim. You are in no position to pass comment or assess the situation. Stop trying to get 5 minutes of fame and seem cool off something so tragic, please let them rest in peace, god knows they deserve it. I have lived here for a few years and seen all the good this place has to offer. The people here are amazing, kind, helpful and understanding. I regularly leave expensive items unattended for a few minutes at a time, to no ill effect. Crime here is at an all time low, not just for Thailand but also for the UK where I come from. We the people who make it what it is pride ourselves on just how safe it is here. Like for like my local town makes Koh Tao look like heaven, gangs of youths, muggings of old ladies and drug addicts everywhere. We are angered at the introduction of extra police and camera's. This we believe is going to create more crime and antisocial behaviour. When you give crime a front seat, the effects are potentially an endorsement. Sure the island has it's own way of doing things, everywhere does. That does not mean it is the wrong way, otherwise we may as well start preaching ourself as American or Victorian British label them savages and destroy them. GROW UP. The media is purposely and wrongly converting 'village chiefs' to mafia heads, to buy extra readers. It is despicable to take someone of good standing and trash their name just because you heard rumours. You wonder why they closed ranks? You forced them into it. Like a lot of you say the as Thai did with the burmese, you have done the same with them. Now lets clear up some myths you all have. DNA - Hannah's body has already been in the UK for some time now. Upon arrival to the UK she will have undergone an immediate post-mortem examination to verify the Thai evidence. In the UK or forensic science is at such a level that tampering would become noticed straight away. They will then also take their own samples for comparison. They will know if they find more than 2 different types of DNA, which would be expected in a cover up. Physical mismatch - David was a big lad and as the official version goes was locked in a fight to the death to defend himself and a vulnerable person. Anyone who has grown up in the UK is used to trouble at night. The 2 people who got the better of him were of no physical comparison. He could have merely held one in each hand to stop the attack. Investigation - Our conclusion was that the police used the wrong methods to investigate this crime. The island has a huge sense of community, this was never levied by the Police. They came in like bull in a china shop charging about, 'owning' the island. This is what caused the ranks to close. Interception of WeChat. The chinese wechat provider is set up to allow law enforcement direct access to the logs. Why haven't these been requested.. Any Thai person who has shown me anything to do with the case has mainly been using Wechat to discuss it. It can filter by keyword so direct viewing of messages isn't needed. I wish people would think before they pass comment, and affect a serious investigation. I call for ThaiVisa to moderate this better, whether they understand it or not they are clearly having a negative effect on the investigation by wasting police time with useless leads and rumours. RTP when you read this please understand the culture of the foreigner to pass comments on things they have no personal involvement with or do not understand. Well son I couldnt care less what inconvenience you are experiencing. Lets clear a few things up. This isnt about you, or the locals, or their bottom line, its about finding the right criminals and getting the kids murdered some justice Couldnt care less if your KT Neighbour feeds you dog and waters your plants when you go on holiday. It does NOT excuse these atrocities, the police didnt care and the community didnt police itself properly even tho they are supposed to care about thier livihoods did they ? do they give a crap about the deaths ~?nope just the $$$$ So what if the Island has a sense of community ? Its a warped one that lives in fear I say the silent wall people put up is getting people raped robbed and murdered. dont paint it as a lovely innocent place its not.... the drug abuse there is huge, and you must know that. Its police are totally corrupt, its people turn a blind eye or are too scared to say a thing. They are a community ? what about the human community they have a bigger obligation to ? Im not going to have a go at you because we all make choices turning a blind eye to or protecting something you love is a human reaction.. but....I have no sympathy for anyone living on the Island anymore. People are dying and being raped on KT ..its too high a price to pay for a little slice of paradise. I hope they put a camera on every corner on every shop and on every lamp post and totally sanitise the whole Island.... Or better still revoke the land rent the Crown property allows them to pay, kick the Islanders off and turn it into a 5 star resort... Social media is doing the job the police wont do, if they had then we wouldnt be here now and KT the Island of death and its community wouldnt be whining and moaning about letting murderers rapists, drug barons and mafia run their Island and lives, actually they arnt are they ? they are just whining about the $$$ ... well thats just tough. Don't ask for sympathy for the Island or the police all mine is for the victims of these murders and all the other kids defiled and wronged by the scumbag cowards there hiding behind a veil of silence and you all pretend a friendly holiday unassuming Island...... well a few of us know people who have lived or live there too and or on other Islands.. unassuming MY A** Spotlights on KT because the police have been corrupt and incompetent from day one and wont do thier job properly, so social media are having a go and tbh doing a much much better job so far and possibly saved 2 more murders of innocents no thanks to the police deal with it. Things always happen they never happen to you.... until they do and then its too late.... I think your a total fool for staying ....but...i hope your daughter stays safe, I hope you never regret that choice Edited October 10, 2014 by englishoak 5

rhythmworx Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority: still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it. Lord Acton

lucpez Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I will never visit that island(nor any other island) . Just out of protest, hope many thousands feel the same . 5000 illegal immigrants and a dodgy police force on Koh Tao , i think the other islands are same same .Stay away, not safe. Visited Koh Tao and Koh Phangnan recently. You get a nasty feeling arriving on both as soon as you see the horrible characters lurking around the pier to fleece tourists and find the taxis (rusty pick-up trucks) are all controlled by the mafia and charge at least B1,000 for a 5 minute taxi ride. If you have ordered the hotel car to pick you up, it will wait for another couple of ferries until it is full, forcing you to take the mafia taxis. Service in many hotels and restaurants is often very poor because it is provided by untrained illegal immigrants who are obviously poorly paid, treated like shit and can't speak a work of Thai. Better call them slave islands than paradise islands. Such a pity given the natural beauty of the islands. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere. I was a regular visitor to Koh Pha Ngan during the last decade. At first, I liked the less-developed, friendly, laid-back feel of the place. Luckily I only ever passed through Had Rin.Every time I went I saw changes. There were more and more tourists. There were more and more resorts. The existing resorts became bigger and better resorts. Shops and restaurants sprang up, even some Italian and Indian food in Thong Sala! Prices went up. The increasing number of tourists saw a lot of expansion and more substantial investment in the island regarding infrastructure, better roads and better connections to the outside world. This influx of money obviously attracted Thais from elsewhere, There was a deterioration in the attitude of the locals. The songthaew drivers at the pier were less friendly and greedier. The people who worked at the resort that I frequented weren't as friendly. It had become a different place. I stopped going. A common story for any resort destination over time.Other than by comparison it has naught to do with KT. I have close friends on KT. We eat out etc but spend our time in the water and evenings at home talking over a glass of good Bourbon... There are not many places I enjoy more. I lived in KPN and still love it and often visit, although i always avoided the full moon and all the other parties. Yes the place is more and more commercial and many locals lost their original attitude, but i am afraid this applies to any tourist destination, where often tourists indulge in inappropriate behaviors. Nevertheless i acknowledge that police corruption and wrong business practices are widespread and i believe this is a great opportunity to try to curb corruption, improve law enforcement and increase safety for all: tourists, expats and good locals, that are victims as well of the evil kingpins.

Wilsonandson Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Well, I'm going back on my word since Sean MCAnna said he wasn't accusing the headsmens son or sons for the murder. It has to be someone else who has probably fled the island. I now say the headmen and his family are in the clear and apologies aren't enough, they must be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. And now I advise the people to return to Ko tao as it was not the fault of those with influence on the island and they probably threaten Sean cause of the blood stains on his guitar and the reports of him with blood on him the night of the murders. Time to move on, let the police drop the Myanmar suspects charges and continue searching for the real killers. Privacy is needed, due to the proverb too many cooks spoil the broth.

Recent international press exposure would suggest it is unwise to continue this violence (assuming they did not get the right perps. Which I think they may have.) That's actually, maybe, perhaps . . . a fair comment. But I don't think they have the perps. This is why only a UK investigation will clear this up with independent DNA testing, which is what the Change.org petition you ridicule is all about. Which now stands at 49,380 signatures by the way, many of them from Thai's and I urge anyone to read the very kind comments left by Thai people. From the article . . . She added: “The police didn’t look at his room or the area where he was found. There was no attempt to investigate. "They spent most of their time laughing and joking as we asked questions.” Tracy said her son Matt was warned there are “powerful people on the island”, and that the family should leave rather than stirring up trouble. They also heard other holidaymakers had died on the island and their bodies “thrown into the water in the hope they’d be washed away”. You see it's not just the victims and their families we are rooting for here. It's also for normal Thai people and their futures. Like my Thai mum, my SIL's, the kids and hell . . . even my ex-wife. If the Burmese men are guilty, fine. But that needs to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt with genuine evidence to secure a safe conviction. Not too many people convinced so far.
