Transfer stamp to new passport

Featured Replies

If I have a new passport, which has been obtained abroad (Sweden), what do I have to do once I arrive in Thailand? Do I have to do anything in particular at Suvarnabhumi, except presenting my two passports to the immigration officer?

And then, I know I have to transfer the stamp/s in my old passport to my new passport (I am on a one year extension), so what are the procedures at immigration at Chaeng Wattana?

And regarding passports issued while being abroad: do I need to have a letter from my embassy, requesting to have stamps moved to my new passport?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

When you arrive you show both passports to immigration and you will be stamped in as usual, now in the new passport.

Back in the country you make photo copies of both passports and relevant pages and visit your local immigration office. They will transfer the details from the old passport to the new passport for free.

A letter from your embassy would be handy, but not sure if needed if you got a new passport abroad.

Chaeng Wattana will want the letter. I am sure you can get one from your embassy.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to visit my embassy then.

If he was given some sort of official receipt when the passport was issued at home, would they not accept that ... assuming it was in English I suppose.

All recent reports when immigration asked for the letter nothing else would work. It does not matter where the passport was issued they will still want the letter from the embassy.

You also need to note that I said CW because they will want the letter while other offices may not want it.

I haven't done this yet, just arrived in Thailand a few days ago.

I just wanted to ask one more question: someone told me that the visit to C.W. immigration, to transfer the stamp, must be done in person. So I can't send someone to do this for me then?

You normally need to do it yourself.

But it is possible you could pay an agent to do it for you.
