PHUKET: Police arrested and charged two men with attempted murder yesterday (October 9) after they confessed to shooting two people as revenge for an incident that occurred during the Vegetarian Festival on October 2.

Accused shooter Chatree “Dam” Hiranwadee, a local Phuketian from the Ban Don area, was arrested along with the alleged gunman, Warakorn “Tekjai” Thaworn, 17, at the latter's home in Thalang. Police found a gun and ammunition (12 mm bullter) during the arrest, said Pol Maj Gen Pachara Boonyasit.

“It was on October 2, the last day of Vegetarian Festival. The conflict started when the two sides started throwing fire crackers at each other,” said Pol Maj Gen Pachara.

Things escalated and the two groups began chasing each other on motorbikes until Mr Chatree’s group could not go any further and made their escape by leaving their vehicles. When they returned later, the group found that their motorbikes had been set ablaze and were badly damaged.

The group believed the other side that was following him included Mr Prasert Jantip and Mr Wanthana Seepsak and that they had burned their bikes.

Police said that Mr Chatree and Mr Warakorn found and shot Mr Prasert twice (in the left arm and right thigh) and Mr Wanthana once in the face on October 4 as revenge.

Mr Prasert has already recovered and was released from Vachira hospital but Mr Wanthana remains in the Intensive Care Unit.

Both Mr Catree and Mr Warakorn were cha

This is real Thainess and not the other examples given in the past.

Boys, playing around, shooting each other and burning their bikes.

Put them in prison for a long time, make an example of them to the others.

Charge, their parents also for never controlling them.

Charge their schools for never giving them a proper education and teach them how to behave in life.

Sick, of hearing these incidents, happening so often in the so called Land of Smiles.

Lets put the blame where it should be on those who destroy, shoot, assult, etc others. by their own choice and lack of responsibility for their actions.

The majority of parents, schools, monks, peers, etc live by the accepted social/legal rules/laws of society. We have to accept that there are those who feel they are above nor are they bound by those standards and should be dealt with on a individual basis. life in jail, conscripted labor, death sentance, are possible solutions. Society is already picking up the tab and being blamed for the actions of this rouge/antisocial behavior, found throughout the animal world. People like this should be dealt with like a rabid animal, thus leaving space for the chance of soneone coming along and making a positive contribution.

Maybe if they got more meat protein in their diet...they would not act so stupidly...

What their stomachs consume is not as detrimental as what their minds consume.

My first suggestion would be music program in schools & the elimination of all forms of violence on tv,

Crazy violent video games make them participants rather than just observers,

"Accused shooter Chatree “Dam” Hiranwadee, a local Phuketian from the Ban Don area, was arrested along with the alleged gunman, Warakorn “Tekjai” Thaworn, 17" - who's breeding these young and violent criminals on Phuket?

Not a great outlook for Phuket with guys like this on the street in the future.

It's not the violence - boys will fight..that's just how it works - it's the intensity of the violence. In a small rural town near where we stay, a 16 year old was recently beaten to death in a fight. A couple of weeks later in another incident In the larger town nearby, three teenagers were shot following a mass brawl outside a nightclub.

It's something I've never understood about Thailand (and Asia in general - because Vietnam, Cambodia, etc are pretty much the same). Why, in what are basically just pissing- match and bragging right fights between groups of teenagers, is there this compulsion to seriously injure or kill the opposition? What's wrong with just sending them home with a black eye or a broken nose? Why does someone have to land up in ICU or the morgue every time? The same social objective is achieved either way. Only one way, the lives of innocent non-participants like parents, victims, and often the kids themselves caught up in this nonsense get ruined.

It''s completely beyond my comprehension.

Perhaps if rule of law was more important than saving face; perhaps if police were not so easy to buy; perhps if the juducual system were more compitent ... then the law would mean something and people like these people would be in prison a very long time.

Might make some people think twice. Others don't think much at all.
