ED Visa Question School hours

Featured Replies

This might have been covered but asking anyway

Some friends tell me if you live in Bangkok you have to go to school 4 times a week

yet if you live outside of Bangkok, such as Chon Buri, Hua Hin, Chiang Mai etc etc you only have to go two times a week

What exactly is the new rules on how much time you suppose to be in school and does being in Bangkok make a difference?

thanks

It will depend on how committed you are to learning your chosen subject. If you are motivated then I guess 5 days a week should be OK. Perhaps some weekend study may help as well.

I think it is still 4 hours a week everywhere.

I've overheard new students at my school in BKK being told 1 day a week for 4 hours, or 2 days a week for 2 hours per day.

So it's still a minimum of 4 lessons per week.

think you misread my question or I re worded it incorrectly, wasnt looking for study advice

was wondering what the standard is now for ED Visa

reason i am asking is i have a friend in Bangkok said he went to 3 schools there this week and they all told him he had to go 4 times a week 2 hours a day to satisfy ED visa requirements

I told him this was the first I have heard of this being offical

he sent me a link of one of hte schools he went too

http://www.tls-bangkok.com/english/ed-visa-1/

as can see 4 times a week, but he said he went to a handful of school that all told him the same thing

just found it interesting and was curious if Bangkok was differnet and others were soon to follow

I read link. I think it said program 1 and 2 are 2 hours 2 times a week for independent study.

Program 3 is 4 times a week and probably expect regular attendance. Probably for more serious students wanting to learn Thai.

"Classes start often"

-I guess this means classes have start dates and you stay with the same students and progress together.

Program 1 and 2 sound similar to the other big school and you just join a class in progress since ever lesson is independent of previous lessons.

Can you get mulitple entries on a ED visa? I'm learning Thai at a school anyway but I plan to go back to my house the in the Philippines every 3 months or so. Just wondering if I should go for an ED visa or just get a dual entry tourist visa.

You will not get a multiple entry ED visa at any embassy or consulate in the region.

Most people get a single entry ED visa and then 90 day extensions. Then when you want to make a trip you get a single re-entry permit that costs 1000 baht.

I am on a single entry ED visa and have used a single re-entry visa. However, the form offers the option of a multiple re-entry visa for THB1,900 instead of THB1,000 for the single re-entry one.

I will be going to the immigration office Monday morning to apply for a multiple re-entry visa. Will update you after that.

I think you're talking about multiple re-entry permit, not visa. If so, the price is Bt 3,800.

I you are on a 90 day extension a multiple re-entry permit would only be valid for those 90 days.

A re-entry permit is only issued for the length of your current permit to stay.

A multiple re-entry permit costs 3800 baht.

If I plan to stay in Thailand 6 months (60 to 90 days at a time) out of the year (slightly less because I want to remain below 180 days both here and in the Philippines, will go to a 3rd country for a week or two) and I'm fully dedicated to learning Thai language (and will be paying/doing it regardless of the visa I get). What is the best way to go about it both price and hassle and flexability? ED or Mulitple Re-Entry tourist visa.

ED visa and related extensions are not good for frequent travelling, unless it's a multi-entry ED visa that is not issued in Asia and difficult to get in other countries.

So in your case I think a double entry tourist visa is better.

If you get Ed visa then your choices of school are limited to schools offering visa.

Keep your options open. Take classed when you are in Thailand.

If out of the contrary a lot then you might have problems with Ed visa because immigration will know you miss many classes.

The school can't mark you as attending class if your passport shows you were not in the the country.

They can only report to immigration you are attending class regularly if your passport shows you are in the country.

Yeah, good call. I don't wanna be stuck with one school and I want the option of using schools that don't do the ED visa. Guess I'll get the tourist visa next time.
