Hi I have read here where and how to get a Thai passport for my girlfriend but have one question I hope can be answered here. My girlfriends ID card only shows the year she was born not the full date of birth. Is this going to be adequate for obtaining a passport. She has had a passport in the past but it is expired and lost. Appreciate all advice on this

she needs her birth certificate, and tabian ban,the wife thinks maybe the parents didnt register her full name.she needs to get in touch with the passport office,or report her id.card as lost[police] then get a new one for starters.

The ID-number is the most important, together with her household registration book.

If she lost the passport, she will also need a police report.

For an adult passport application only the ID card will be needed. Her birth date on the passport will be the same as what is shown on the ID card.

  • Documents required for applicants who have reached the age of majority
The original valid Thai Citizenship I.D. Card, Government Official Identification Card or
an identification card that complies with the rules of the Ministry of Interior.
(If the Government Official Identification Card does not contain a 13-digit Personal Number,
the applicant must bring the House Registration as well)

Thanks my main problem is her ID card only shows her year of birth not full date. Her last passport expired long ago and was disposed of. She thinks her birth was never registered. Will the passport office still have a record of her expired passport and just be able to issue a new one if she takes in the ID card she has and house registration?

There are many Thais that do not have a date of birth shown on their ID card or passport. Some just the year and others just month and year. That will not be an issue.

Since her old passport has expired she should not need a police report.

The website states.

What to do when you lose your Passport?

  • Lost/stolen domestically: must file a police report then bring that report to apply for a new e-Passport and cancel the misplaced Passport.

In cases when there is no date of birth it is because the birth was registered long after birth and the parents could not remember the birth date or there was no record of it.

I assume you mean house book (tambien ban). She is registered in somebodies house book. Possibly her parents.

It will be the one for the address shown on her ID card. She can go to an Amphoe and get a print out of the registry.

Don't forget Thai police need to know exact time, date and place of the loss even if she doesn't know that for her birth.

I once sat next to a man from Africa on a plane coming in to land at Swampy. He asked for help in completing his landing card. One of his problems was that his passport only showed the year of his birth. I told him to just fill in that and watched him get thro immigration without hassles.

Thanks everybody for your replies. We are going to the passport office today. Do we need to take passport photos with us or do they do this there.

The passport office takes the photo themselves.

They are one of the most efficient government agencies in the world.

There are several passport offices in Thailand. Where do you live?

Processing time is, applying usually within half an hour of arrival finished. Pick-up in a few days or have it send to your house for 65 baht by EMS within 1 week.

I don't understand what a tabieen baan is except it's a record or where you are registered to live. This is for my gf do she can obtain a passport. She seems to think she goes to a local office to get a copy of this registration. She lives in a room in a 5 story residence building. Be great if someone could point me in the right direction of what I need to do.

That's all it is, a house registration. Where she is registered now is the same address as is on her ID card.

Anyway, she only needs her ID card for her passport application anyway.
