Allowed to leave thailand to apply for 60 day visa?

Featured Replies

Hello,

My girlfriend and I are traveling the world at the moment. A week ago we arrived here in Thailand. We like it a lot, unfortunately our visa is only for 30 days. We would love to stay for another month or even two months.

I read up that a 30 day visa can only be extend to an additional 7 days.

We have a friend that just decided to come visit us on a short notice, but his stay is overlapping with our 30 days, so we would need to apply for the 7 day extension so we can travel for a week with our friend.

My question is, if we now apply for a 7 day extension, is it possible that we then leave the country, maybe go to Kuala Lumpur and stay there for a few days while applying for a 60 day thai visa?

Or is this totally out of the question because we just have been in thailand with a 7 day extension?

Because of a recent change, visa exempt entries can be extended for 30 days.

After that a tourist visa should not be a problem for you.

You can now get 30 days extension on a visa exempt stamp.

No problem leaving the country and applying for a new tourist visa abroad.

Although KL is not the recommended place to go for any visa.

You might need confirmed flight tickets and hotel bookings in KL.

Penang is more relaxed on giving tourist visas.

Vientiane in Laos will give you double entry tourist visas that utilized right gives you 180 days in Thailand.

Wow, didn't expect to get answers this quickly. Thanks :)

So 30 days extensions, that is great.

180 days, wow, that sounds too good to be true. You just made me curious about that now.

Never been to Laos, but wouldn't mind visiting Vientiane.

How complicated is it to get that 180 day visa for thailand in Vientiane? Is it the same as getting the 30 day extension, where you basically walk into the embassay and 1 hour later you get it? Or is it weeks/months of paper work?

The procedure is the same as in every consulate in the region.

Application is made before lunch, pick up next day after lunch.

Double entry gives you 60 days at entry that you can extend at immigrations for 30 days, make the other entry for 60 days and extend once more.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

So just to confirm what I could do now.

- Go to immigration in bangkok, extend my 30 day tourist visa to another 30 day.

- Before the total of 60 days are over, fly up to Loas (Vientiane), stay there for a few days and apply for a double entry thai visa.

- Fly back to thailand with my 60 day visa

- Extend that 60 day visa for 30 days

- Leave the country quickly again and come back in, to make use of my double entry visa, which is good again for 60 days.

- Extend that 2nd 60 day visa for 30 days.

Am I missing something or is that pretty much a possible option for us?

I never had a double-entry visa. Is like a second visa that is handed out, which can be used when re-entering?

Keep in mind that you must make the second entry before the visa itself expires. That will be 3 months from date you get the visa itself.
