Recently I heard a friend of mine saying that an Immigration Officer told him that if a Farang has a Marriage VISA he can work without a Work Permit if he works for his wife's business activity or his wife's company.

Is that true?

That is not correct.

There is no marriage visa.

You can get a work permit and work with a non-o visa entry or an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. Perhaps this is what they meant.
