they horde in huge numbers at least on the ground outside
they are a dark brownish red medium sized

kind of ugly
you DONT want to get bitten or pinched by one, OUCH!
they are NOT ants, possibly related to termites?

I don't know the Thai name but the Latin name is Minimus milio assemblis hideus bruneta insectus similari termitis.

Are you sure it isn't the rice beetle...hard to tell without a pic but they cause bad skin reaction if they get squashed on your body. Also known as a Rove Beetle
