Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m proud to announce to you that I got a life.

In the past, I was watching my wife and her kids going up and down, left and right, with their fingers on their mobile phones and I was feeling depressed and left out, also anywhere I used to go, I could see all people of all ages engaged in the same activity.

So yesterday, went to Khon Kaen to look for a new camera and instead I bought a new mobile phone.

One of those with the big screen and a camera front and back.

So took it home and started fiddling with it, so I know what that super thing can do for me.

It took me half an hour to switch it on, another half hour to set the day and time and by 11:00 in the night got fed up and through it on my desk.

The bigger problem is that my wife rang me this morning, but for the life of me I didn’t know how to answer the bloody thing……..not so easy as to push a button as I have done with all my older mobiles.

So I had to rush to one of her sons, and I was amazed to see his finger going up on the screen and answer the phone.

Didn’t realize, I need a PhD, to operate this thing.

But even after all my troubles; I’m determined to master the thing.

It can take me years, but at the end I will succeed in my quest………. I’m really determined.

But at least, I won’t feel left out any more.

I can always pretend that I’m doing something important, by moving my fingers up and down, left and right on that awkward contraption.

Thank you for listening to me and there is no need any more to tell me to get a life.

I got one now, the only thing don’t know what to do with it.

All the mod phones are all touch screens or swipe to answer, thats the easy part keeping the darn things charged for more than 10 hours is the difficult part.

When I got my first smart phone, a friend came round and asked if he could borrow a newspaper. I told him I didn't get newspapers anymore as my smartphone now substituted many newspapers and I insisted that he borrowed the phone to try it.

Twenty minutes later he returned my new phone in four bits and said it didn't work very well.

He wanted the newspaper to kill a fly.

I always get a chuckle when I use my simple basic Nokia I've had for 7 yrs. with people around I tell them its an I-Phone. When the new phones can cook and wash clothes perhaps I'll get a new one.

Don't bother with a camera, these days they are redundant and more complicated than the phone.

I have a compact camera and video camera, just a few years old. We used to go out and I would be snapping and filming away for the family album.

Now don't need them anymore.

The kids have camera tablets and the wife a smartphone and they do all the snapping and filming.

I and my cameras are redundant.

Smartphones are brilliant.

Pay my bills, rego my car, book a hotel room, even talk to someone on them.

Once you get one you can never go back.

My first TouchPhone got last year, and I made sure it also had a keypad. (nokia asha300)

Pretty rare to find phones now that have both touch and keys.

We'd had a few different all-touchies, that the touchscreen fails within a year, and you are then s.t.u.c.k.

but good luck, and don't forget to make a future appt with doctor to separate your chin from your chest

Sadly by the time you figure out how to use it the damn thing will be obsolete as both iOS and Andriod will have been updated umpteem times, requiring you to get the latest all singing, dancing, picture taking, gaming, socializing phone which will have just enough differences to drive you finally to the brink of madness. Yeah when you first turn on a new phone you need to set the time/date/language which tells me they never got as far as slipping in a sim card.......

What did they check that was working other than the on/off button ?
