I finally got my multiple tourist visa from the Thai embassy, had to go there 4! times to get it and travel 150 km single way for that.

The clerk needed a bank statement paper which shows that i have sufficient funds on the bank and then i got my visa.

When he gave me my passport back he warned me to always bring the bank statement with me when i go in/out of Thailand. Then i asked him if the custom could refuse to let me enter into Thailand if i didn't bring it with me, he said yes sure they can.

Am i the only one that has to obey this rule ? I have several bankaccounts and don't keep my money on 1. Also the bankstatement will be old in 2 months when i have to do a visarun.

Is there another way to show the customs that i 'm not a poor beggar? Will an american express silver/gold card also convince the Thai customs that i have sufficient funds?

Has anybody else here with a valid visa allready been asked for a bankstatement at the customs?

Bankstatement of my own bankaccount, no Thai bank.

Well i barely use my creditcard so i don't know much about them but i always thought that an american express GOLD creditcard means that you have something like 50-100k us$ credit. Isn't that true?

I just don't see the purpose of travelling around in Asia with my bankreceipts in my pocket because the Thai want me to. Those receipts will be olddated after 4 months so what's the use of showing them? I can book the money off the account any time i like.

First i had to work so hard to get this visa and now it still seems useless because the customs can refuse me anytime they want. Also they only care for money on the bank, don't care for cash or anything else.

There are some embassies that will want to see financial proof of 20k baht or the equivalent in local currency. Some also set a higher amount than that though.

Immigration (not customs) seldom asks for it on entry. When they do it is because they suspect you are working here because you have many entries. Having 20k baht in cash or the equivalent in a exchangeable currency will be accepted as proof.

You mean Immigration, not Customs. When they want to make it difficult for someone, they may lawfully insist to see cash money, not cards nor statements. So the consulate clerk gave your wrong information.

Wait....does that mean I can get unlimited tourist visas as long as I have enough cash in the bank? Are they asking for online printout or what?

I showed them a print and asked them how much money i have to show but i still didn't get an answer to that question.

Well the rules about that are not written anywhere so i have no idea. But i guess that's how it works from now on since the junta is in power. They want quality tourists so if you think you are a quality tourist and can prove the funds for that then i don't see the problem why they would refuse you the visa's. Oh and don't wear a small bikini or Speedo, quality tourists don't do that.

I only know that you can't get too many visa excempts in row. Even not when there are several months inbetween the entry's.

If you are older then 50 you can go for the retirement visa.

You can when not doing out/in. For example offshore workers on 30/30 rotation do that without any problem.

Yes that works as long as they don't go to an embassy to applie for a visa with the new rules.

I haven't heard of anybody being refused entering thailand by air but i guess that's why they warned me.

There are no new rules about visa.

Some individuals are singled out and refused entry because nationality, sex and travel history.

Having the Centurion one could be a good start!

IMO having an Amex in your pocket doesn't prove you have funds, it proves you have an Amex card in your pocket.

Not quite right. There might be an assumption that an Amex card holder has passed a financial bar to be issued with said card ie is a relatively high net worth individual, at least with the chargecard version.

Depends on which Amex card we're talking about... Green, Gold, Platinum, Black...

The first 2 are easy to get...
