Should be little difference as almost everywhere will accept Visa and Mastercard. However, Visa generally provides a slightly better exchange rate.

Your biggest concern should be getting a Visa or Mastercard that has the lowest fees as charged by the "card-issuing" bank (like no foreign transaction fee)....and of course best benefits (i.e, cash back or point rewards program) as offered by the "card-issuing" bank. The fees charged by and benefits offered by the "card-issuing" bank should be your biggest concern...not which card network logo is on the card.

MasterCard seems to be popular in Oz, and maybe to a lesser degree in the US.

In my experience, Visa is much more widely accepted worldwide.
