Manchester City

Manchester City have become national under-15 champions - after seeing off fellow Premier League powerhouses Chelsea and Arsenal along the way.

And in a nod to their past, as well as their future, the Blues skipper Tommy Doyle – who was named as the tournament's best player – is the grandson of City legends Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe (Doyle's son married Pardoe's daughter).

Man City's Claudio Bravo is a playmaker not sweeper-keeper'

http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37610692#top-link

In his first four Premier League games, the Chilean has received 127 passes from his team-mates, or an average of 31 a game.Last season his predecessor at City, Joe Hart, received 303 in 35, an average of less than 10. Lloris, who made more touches with his feet than any other top-flight keeper in 2015-16, averaged 14. Bravo is seeing even more of the ball than he did for Barcelona in La Liga last season but he is still using it the same way - when he can - making lots of accurate short passes.

And I am not used to it, so it still makes me nervous

It's the risky bit that makes me nervous. The opposition only need to win it off him once and there's an empty net. Like I said, I'm just not used to that style of goalkeeping but it is entertaining and you can see why Pep wanted him.

However, Hart shoved a couple of fingers at Pep the other day

Very pleased to see that Hart shoved a couple of fingers at Pep plus all the media knockers who've been hounding him since the 2 European games. Pleased to see that he seems to be popular at Torino. I'd have him back at City in an instant if I could...Hart and Bravo (not Wobbly Willy).

What formation is this today? Looks like a back 3, Fernandinho anchoring, KdB Gundogan Silva with a front 3 of Sane, Iheanacho, Sterling?

KdB straight back in, Aguero on the bench (after a bad week) with Nacho starting, and Kompany back on the bench. Interesting.

Man City: Bravo, Otamendi, Stones, Clichy, Gundogan, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Sane, Iheanacho, Sterling

Subs: Caballero, Kompany, Zabaleta, Nolito, Kolarov, Fernando, Aguero

Everton: Stekelenburg, Oviedo, Jagielka (c), Williams, Coleman, Barry, Gana, Cleverley, Deulofeu, Bolasie, Lukaku

Subs: Robles, Barkley, Mirallas, McCarthy, Valencia, Funes Mori, Holgate

That was a strange game. First thing, it seemed to go on forever. Everton defended very well, had a bit of luck when required, goalie was MoM, and Lukaku took the one chance they had brilliantly. We seemed to always want that extra touch and then the chance was gone. You can't miss penalties like we're doing - BOTH players didn't look confident. Excellent goal from Silva's brilliant cross and Nolito's header. Silva easily the best of our midfielders/forwards. In the end happy to get a point on a difficult game for City.

Really? I rather thought the defending was utter shi'ite.

What have you done to Clichy? He used to be one of the nippiest defenders in the league.

Or has he just decided that he's content to sit and take an absurd salary and no longer needs to earn it?

Lukaku lumbered past him, it was a walk in the park.

Mirror reporting that "Pablo Zabaleta, Jesus Navas, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy,Yaya Toure and Willy Caballero could all depart when their deals expire next June" plus Joe Hart. Don't think that's far off the mark. We need to freshen up the fullback positions, Navas is a pretender, Willy not good enough and Yaya and Hart have left the building already metaphorically.

That's another 400m of the Emirati peoples' money to be pished away then.

^Think the Sheikh can afford it, don't you. Part of the cost of a national advertising campaign.

Maybe he can, but I'm sure the Emirati people would prefer their money be spent on them. Of course if they say that they'd be put in jail.

Why Manchester City have destroyed the oil money jibe

Critics of Man City can no longer complain as the club moves into profit

The next time a green-eyed fan of another team sneers about Manchester City’s success being down to “oil money”, Blues will have a ready answer.

“In fact, we are a self-sustaining club which not only posted record revenues and is in the top six money-making clubs on the planet, but is now turning a profit.” Or words to that effect.

Anyone with half a brain could see that the “oil money” jibe was a nonsense anyway.

It seemed to be claiming that oil money was somehow dirtier, and had none of the Corinthian sporting value of money given by Chevrolet, or Carlsberg, or screwed out of fans’ pockets.

The fact that the Blues are now in the black after seven years of being revamped by Sheikh Mansour’s investment should be celebrated as an example of positive ownership.

Instead, the rich clubs who have had their noses put out of joint by the “lottery winners” dining at their table will harrumph about financial doping. After all, only they should be allowed to financially dope, because they “earned” their doping money. Utter tosh.

The rest will whine about City having an unfair advantage, while secretly wishing the Sheikh had chosen them. The Blues now have a fine stadium, mostly full, an incredible training ground and academy, and a commercial set-up that is bringing in huge amounts of cash – and are a profitable business. The contrast with owners who have leeched money from clubs, and stacked them with debt, is there for all to see.

"Hey Bro, give us 400m out of the Etihad pot we nicked out of sovereign funds, then we can convince those fools that we are a "commercially profitable enterprise".

"Oh, and while you're at it, tap up cousin Mo, cousin Ahmed and cousin Abdulla as well. They won't mind, it's not their money either".

Against all the talk about us being the Sheikhs plaything, this is what we are happy about. All of that investment and we are in a very healthy financial position and not in debt up to the eye balls

It would just be nice if you would thank the people of the UAE for their unwanted financial sacrifice.
