Hindsight tells us it was the wrong choice of timing and could have ben done better but I don't think the owners can be called unprofessional for that. He was already in position when they took over and only finished 10th that year. It was the following season when we went on an awful run of about 7 draws in a row and only 2 wins in 11 matches when they got rid. Don't think many clubs would stick by a manager with those stats. He was average there and de Jong was the better player in that position. At least a season after joining us, we had an injury crisis/suspension (to probably Dunne and Richards, maybe Onuaha, who I think were our centre back pairing at the time) and Kompany was tried, was a success and has made that centre back position his own ever since. Hughes joined City June 2008. Kompany joined City 22 August 2008. Zaba joined City 31 August 2008. The 2 players were bought under Hughes managerment (not Sven').
