I really don't think they ever found it perfectly safe - they found it taxable - it is a habit forming drug that causes many deaths and broken families just like the abuse of any mind altering drug does if not used properly. It is so bad you cannot even have a pumpkin festive in NH without a load of nitwits showing up a ruining everything because of excessive use the drug alcohol. Now that whole town will pay the price for those that can't handle the use of legal drugs. In other words the use of it often has externalization which are defined by law as hurtful and destructive to those around the users like drunk drivers - the status of its misuse is out of control world wide. Well we were here about the same age and time then - you could buy a kilo for 5 dollars, Thai stick was laced with morphine and powder morphine was everywhere. Rent a home was 12 dollars a month and a T-lok was cheap enough - if you lived in country full time it was not long that most of us got tried of it all. To be an official railroader you had to lay 100 different Thai's in 90 days. After a time you would simply rejoin the human race again and spend time with real people. I am fully informed on what Thailand is and was like over some time but it is only what you want that gets you to that place - it is not everywhere you go.

My point is in Thailand they don't want that and it is nothing to do with us. Most Thai 'the majority' and that is from all parties the one thing they can agree on. So the times changed long ago and the US really had nothing to do with the fact that Thailand does not allow and will never allow legal drug use and frankly they would prefer to see an end to human trafficking also.

BTW back home we watched movies on TV but the sound track was from a radio station that changed the script. you know what I mean. Here in Thailand my father in law grew pot and had the coolest bong I ever saw - it was just for them. He was not out to build an empire of death and corruption and he worked hard everyday and no one bothered him.

In the US the local war on drugs like many programs becomes an empire on to itself - local police get weapons and trucks and a salary of 60k a year each without having to even use local taxes and then have to go out and use it or lose it. It has more to do with big government and its tools then even wanting to win a war or bust anybody. It is the same waste fraud and abuse most all government programs end up in, but strangely the most out spoken have the longest list of other programs they like even if the wasted result is the same.

The real war got spun off like a comet into a government mandate run a mock. I am not saying the war on drugs is completely right but nether has many other government programs had any better record of success and many want those more funded anyway. Busting johnny pimple face for a joint never stopped the flow of money into the hands of the wrong people and if there ever was a case to prove the need for limited government the war on drugs on the home front would be near the top of my list. The International War is a completely different thing then all of that.

There really are some bad guys out there and running drug is one of the ways they afford to do many bad things The issue in Thailand as in the US is - does making it legal fix that problem and really the answer is no because the true and original effort has nothing to do with the users anyway. The International drug trade and local use are two completed different animals that simple cross path at times but remain largely unrelated outside the minds of some people in media. Again, your friends have underlying issues. I personally started smoking at 15 until I was 21. Then I joined the army so I quit over night for 4 years. Not once did I smoke or even crave when I traded smoking weed for exercising.

After the army I smoked for another 4 years until I moved here so I don't smoke now. It's not addicting, however I can say that my memory was shit when I smoked lol.
