Registering marriage in Thailand.

Featured Replies

HI All

Looking for some advice please.

I am a British national and my wife is a British and Thai national. We got married in the U.K and have a U.K marriage certificate.

I would like to register the marriage in Thailand so I can apply for a Thai marriage visa for myself in the near future.

I am currently in Thailand on a Non O multi entry visa.

Any help would be much appreciated.

First you will need to do a self certification of your UK marriage certificate by way of doing a statement at the UK embassy. You will just write that your marriage certificate is valid, true and correct. The embassy will have an example since your will not be the first one that has done it.

Then you will need to have the certification and your marriage certificate translated to Thai. Then have the translations certified at the Ministry of Foreign affairs. The translation service can get the certification done for you.

Then you will need to go to the registrars office at the Amphoe and register your marriage. They will issue a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry that you will need at immigration to do an extension. They will also update your wife's house book and she can also choose to have your name on her ID card.
