Interior Ministry sets up corruption claim center across Thailand

BANGKOK, 22 October 2014 (NNT) – Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda has set up a committee to investigate corruption cases throughout the country.

According to General Anupong, people can now also file a corruption complaint at the Damrongtham Center at any of its branches throughout Thailand. The Interior Minister said corruption is a serious crime, especially at the local level.

The committee will investigate the claims by working alongside provincial governors and chief district officers. People are encouraged to report any irregularities within a government project. Anyone guilty of corruption will be punished under the rule of law.

General Anupong also dismissed claims that the Interior Ministry had been wrongfully involved in the subsidy program for giving rubber farmers 1,000 baht per rai. Nonetheless, the ministry will investigate the truth on this matter.

Especially if they intend to protect the little people who file charges against more powerful people. What do you think will happen to the tuk-tuk drivers and street venders who complain about the 'tax' imposed on them by the police?

mind you...wouldn't it be wonderfully if it did work...but with the BiB looking on

they could of course just sack all the police..that would deal with over half !!

But when they PM's office buys microphones with 100% surcharge or TVs about 5 times more expensive than a consumer, then that's not corruption and all is fine.

We can all see what happens to complaints filed there... Garbage bin.

Maybe, just maybe if they provided contact information such as a website, email, phone number, more people would have a better chance of reporting. They always seem to leave out the most important aspect of their 'great' ideas.

As long as any potential whistle-blower has to fear for his life (or at least serious repercussions), most Thais will keep their mouth shut.

For this idea to work, an organisation independent of the police/military/administration is required. Can´t see that happening in Thailand in the near future.
