Public prosecutors unfazed by retraction of confession in British tourists’ killing

BANGKOK, 23 October 2014 (NNT) - Public prosecutors are not worried that the suspects accused of killing two British tourists have retracted their earlier confession to the crime.

Regional Public Prosecution 8 deputy director-general Thawatchai Siangjaew said that the retraction of the confession by two Myanmar migrants who have been accused of killing the two Britons on the popular island of Koh Tao will not impact the case compilation and the prosecution because public prosecutors have been focusing on evidence and witnesses, not the confession.

Mr. Thawatchai added that, in this case, forensic evidence and reports from the medical examiners will be the most crucial elements in the filing of the case with the court.

He went on to say that after investigators have been instructed to conduct more probes, it remains unknown when the case will be complete and ready for filing.

When asked about international concerns over the investigation, Mr. Thawatchai said that Thai police will be able to answer every doubt raised but no outside authorities can send their people to work on this case as Thai laws do not permit such a scenario.

That doesn't sound good. I wonder what it is they are waiting for to file the case. DNA matches maybe. You would think if they had that they would file the case. Surely they aren't going to turn the case back onto the police and expose a frame up and get rid of the lot of them... Are they waiting for more fabricated evidence to do this... They can't be waiting for the British police to tell them what they know could they.. Maybe working out a way to let them go without losing to much face... So many conflicting reports its impossible to know which way the case will go. I'm not sure if the continual waiting is good or bad for the Burmese kids.

As no DNA was sent to a independent tester it seems that any DNA they want to match will. I mean if these boys DNA ends up matching how can they explain the fact there is a photo of them in line at the beginning of the case when they were testing all the Burmese workers and no match came up.

Then the case went in circles for a week or two and then some DNA was found at the scene that then matched theirs.

I know there has been a lot of conspiracy stuff on this case but this case stinks.

People are saying these boys are too small to kill David and then others argue that if they hit him on the back of the head that would be enough. So why the puncture wound injuries around his chin and right side of his face?

Remember that he was then dragged to the sea. Why would Hannah not of ran or screamed? People are saying she was drugged. Well the Burmese boys said they were watching her and David getting cosy on the beach so that seems to veto that explanation.

Anyway irrelevant of the finer details of this case one thing is for sure is that there is something fishy going on!!

They will want to look at the DNA and if it matches then fine. If not I doubt they'll just shrug their shoulders and walk away.

You don't need to investigate anything to find the flaws if they exist, just examine the evidence and draw conclusions.

The confession is gone and suddenly doesn't matter.

All hopes are that the Brits got their own DNA samples and this would put the lives of two Burmese out of danger if they are really innocent, but it's as far as this case will go. The real killers will never be catched.

Of course there will not be any investigating allowed. What I read of that is the young kid Nomsod and co will never have to answer any questions ever. His alibis will never be looked into. As long as the 2 Burmese kids are released I'm OK with that now. Not much point fighting a losing argument. Just free the kids and let's all move on. Justice is never going to be served here. Its shameful, disgraceful corruption at its best. Our anger now needs to be pointed in other directions. If it is so that they rely on OUR tourist dollar so much simply stop giving it to them. If the thai police do not cooperate, as we all suspect, that will be the main conclusion in the British police report.

So the upshot will be another nail in the coffin for the reputation of Thailand. I know many posters like to claim Thailand is such a strong and successful country that it doesn't matter what anyone thinks of them. You are welcome to your opinions, everyone has opinions, just like everyone has certain bodily orifices. I have an opinion too, which is that reputation always matters and that Thailand needs the world a lot more than the world needs Thailand and the country will certainly pay a price for being considered backward, corrupt, disrespectful, dishonest, not deserving of trust and respect and not welcome within the circle of countries thought to be civilised and developed.

There are of course many countries that behave in a unacceptable manner. I am sure North Korea also thinks they are better than the rest of the world. The price they pay is misery. Getting kind of sick the extent some are going to in order to defend the suspects who very likely brutally murdered two innocent lives. Time to stop this nonsense with the conspiracy crap and let the case play out ... they have good lawyers and have both the UK and Myanmar officials who will be observing the case and evidence presented.

It has just gotten to the point of being sick the extent some are going to in either making BS up or just coming up with ridiculous theories and speculation based on ignorance about the facts of the case and born out of personal issues and feelings.

Just pathetic some of the things said by folks who don't have a clue about the case or how the process of observation works or even the circumstances that one country would allow (ask) another country help in an investigation (as Thailand has and will continue to do when needed).
