MOTS to establish tourism development zones

BANGKOK, 23 October 2014 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) is planning to introduce tourism development zones in five groups of provinces and is to review the national tourism policy, the Minister has advised.

The Minister, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul revealed that the ministry will hold talks with the National Tourism Policy Committee to establish the tourism strategic plan.

This plan will develop tourism in five groups of provinces. The first group is the Lanna Civilisation tourism sector, in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, and Lampang provinces.

The second group is the active beach tourism sector, in Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.

The third group is the Southern-Isan Civilisation tourism sector, in Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.

The fourth group is the Royal Coast tourism sector in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Ranong provinces.

And the fifth group is the Andaman sea tourism sector, in Krabi, Phang Nga, Phuket, Trang, and Satun provinces.

The ministry will consider the existing tourism roadmap, to decide whether it requires an edit or a complete rewrite. However, the MOTS will work with other related ministries when working on the roadmap, said the Minister.

The Minister of Tourism and Sports also said that the ministry has decided to establish an accurate and reliable tourist information center, which will coordinate with the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Department of Tourism. This project is currently under discussion but is expected to start next year.

They mention mainly coastal provinces. Sure, there are a lot of lovely beaches in Thailand that do not have many foreign tourists, because they are too far from an international airport, like in Chumporn, Trat and Trang. The majority of tourists book a package consisting of the flight, quick transfer to the destination, hotel and transfer back to the airport. Being too far from an international airport means no package tourism.

Loving that the previous article to this on the ThaiVisa daily news feed was

Heavy rain at many Bangkok locations; flooding at Grand Palace, tourists brave deep water; drainage operating at full speed /MCOT

Hey TAT there's a tourism "zone" ready for development!

"The ministry will consider the existing tourism roadmap" Ever ask a Thai for directions?

Tourism has seen lots of developments recently. Look at all the developments in the Koh Tao situation.... Makes me think of Twin Peaks " a town full of secrets".

Dont worry about expanding tourism as the era for Thailand sadly has come to an end , your image is so bad you could halve your tourist destinations and they would still be empty.

Outstanding about time Soi Kola in Surin is going to get developed AND recognized as world class tourist destination.cheesy.gif

And Bangkok is no longer included in the tourism mix.

Bet you won't see TAT ending such questionable practices as publishing a slick expensive tourism magazine in Thai language only and distributing it only in Thailand, or running expensive road shows to India.to convince them to get married in Thailand away from their families, religion, culture, and language. That fishy scent you smell is a national tourism ministry promoting local destinations to Thai people. This is akin to owning a travel agency and advertising to your children. Certainly wouldn't cost much and with a big budget...........

Glad to see that they are staying out of the town I settled in. Hope they stay out. Last thing I want to see is a bunch of Boardwalk Empire wanta be's pulling into town to "fix" the problems and collect their "due" rewards.

They should develop Udon, Sakon Nakhon and Nakon Phanom more.

We have some great assets here in Isaan but you never hear mach from TAT in Isaan.

And I was hoping for the opposite. My opinion, but I think they ruin everything they touch.

The tourism ministry, the tourism authority and the tourism council, have I missed any? 3 separate tourism bodies all with huge budgets from the government and all trying to out do each other. Why don't they roll them all into one thus saving money and something might actually get done.

There are some great assets here in Isaan, but I disagree with you Mobile.

Attracting rude exploitative tourist here to quiet, undeveloped Isaan would be a major mistake.

Now, most of us are treated very well by the local Thai people, because most of us are good people, married to Thais who respect the people and culture.

Inviting in rude tourist who really do not care about the local way of life to throw a little money around is not a sound idea.

The damage they would do is not worth the money they would bring in.

Keep them in the areas of Thailand that have been converted to Farang Thailand for decades and let us remain Thai-Thailand please.

This is not what we are in Isaan and not what we want people to think we are!post-147745-0-68095200-1414227025_thumb.
