or the third option just pay back the money. Taking a loan for 500k from a loan shark isn't very smart and I just don't understand why someone would take such a big loan.

The OP never said 500K had been borrowed. All he said "500,000 baht Chanote land in the balance". No loan shark would lend the full value of the land.

yes your right lk.they would only lend 150k-200k at the most.

the op should consider what we have already posted.

when you are not there they know how to pull the heart strings.we or most of us can write a book on stories from the land of nod.and have fallen for it aswell.

roof has fallen in,ma has fallen and broke her leg,[thats a fav.one] bike accident,so the op.needs to come clean and say what is his envolvment with the freind.

another and likely answer to her missing is,run off with someone else who's plonked a bundle on the table for ma and pa.

If you call the people you supposed to call when reporting "illegal activities", you will very likely give a call to the people you would like to report in a way or another.....it sounds kinda funny, but in reality it isn't.

I tell you from personal experience, i did once report to the local BiB station, people consuming drugs, all i got it back, was some laugh as if i was telling them a joke or something......strangely enough, the people involved with the drugs, the days after the "report" had taken place, looked at me as if they were aware i reported them, guess who were the only people aware of me speaking with the police, maybe only the police???

Noooo it can not be, we all know that the police will never do that here, and also that thais don't do bad things, if i see something, they must have been burmese, kamens, laotian, etc, surely not thoys..........

There's a pinned topic on this with some info http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/231734-tourist-police-other-important-contact-information/

As you are probably aware, calling the local bibs won't do much of anything, unless you consider filling out a report that will most likely collect dust as something.

Obviously, the OP is not "aware".

In this case i don't agree, because if it will end up only in "collecting dust", that would already be a big favour they are doing to him, plus we also know how they like to keep a secret between them here.....

I would tell her to call her doctor first - because if she reports the illegal activity, she will need him. biggrin.png

Due to the truth in the NKM post, your first call should be to JAL, Delta, or Air France.

yo IceMan how about this, I ask for some info, if you don't have that info then <deleted> off, this is serious shit.

She part of my family she lives in Rawai now she's gone Missing. I'm in Hawaii now and it would be great to get some real help from other people not a bunch of your insta crap. I'm not asking where I can buy a Toothbrush maybe trying to save someone from Harm.

Take a long hard look in the mirror and look deep inside your self. Who are you?

Aloha

I am so sorry to hear this problem and yes it is good you let some PEOPLE

who think everything is funny what you think of them.

I personally have tried for years to write for help on issues and

got similar remarks like I would never buy a Condo here, or if you want

peace and quiet go somewhere else etc etc.

My share to you is try the 1111 hotline. I have had 50 percent success calling that hotline.

they speak English and actually seem to try and help.

It is a tough situation this website does have very kind and considerate and knowledgeable people that if you weed out the mean and angry and miserable ones you can get some good sharing and advice.

Take it all with a grain of salt and Ask the Lawyer is a new good source of INfo on this Site as well.

Good luck and lets hope for the best for your friends safety and yes lovely people who think you are funny when someone else is need and hurting one day we get what we give.

Cheers and the best to all

What's the interest rate, the standard 3%/mo or is it higher?

The standard in Phuket is 20% a month and you normally pay every single day. Collateral can be anything of value from moter bikes to land and yes, you secure ownership can be transferred before you get the money. Many loan sharks working closely together with the BiB who often have money invested. It is also the norm, that you agree about a time frame and if you haven't paid back within this, you lose your collateral or you agree to a new contract - nothing strange there.

If your friend can't pay the interest and/or the loan, she will lose the land but I doubt something bad will happen. However! There are groups who can be very tough to deal with and then she has a problem. If you believe her, which it seems you do, and you are in the position to pay the loan, then do it. Just remember that you might never see the money again (even if she says she will pay you back) and it might happen again.

Another good advice given on the board, is to be here to make sure, somehow, that the money are really paid and not used for something else. To stand up against these people can end very badly and I would not advise this, even if you think, with our western glasses on, that it is the right thing to do.

Loan sharks are very common in Thailand, as it is very difficult and takes time, to get a normal loan from a bank, even if you have collateral. By law, the interest rate can't be more than 15% per month, but I guess they are just a bit more greedy in Phuket.

So, after a "long hard look in the mirror" I have discovered I look the same as you, "a farang." biggrin.png

Did you go to Western Union and send the 500,000 baht for "sick chanote title?" biggrin.png

Seriously, you would have a lesser chance getting scammed renting a jet-ski here. biggrin.png

Aloha

I would say that the 20% rate is charged on smaller loans, often it's 1% per day. And it's collected every day. 10% per month would be a good deal. It's crazy and how are these folks ever going to clear the initial money borrowed.

"It's crazy and how are these folks ever going to clear the initial money borrowed." - they are not supposed to clear the debt.

A farang is supposed to clear it for them. :)

Tad harsh OP. You're initial post was exceeding scant on details. Could have been anything from flytipping to a neighbour's barking dog huh.png

What's it to you if people 'consume drugs'? You drink? Smoke? Mind your own business.

Oh BTW, There's an saying from my home country other snitches on this forum (and there are a few), should bear in mind: 'Make sure when you go digging holes for other people you're not digging one for yourself' dry.png

But a word to the wise atay the hell out of it not your business or problem let her and her other boyfriends sort it out.

If you want to donate some money go ahead, that is the reason you've been involved in this. Thais know exactly what their options are and you involvement will only complicate your life. Be smart or ATM,up to you.

i dont know what answers the op was expecting, but nkm.was polite in his answer not like the reply.

but the more i read into this exspecialy he says he is fully aware of the sick buffalo syndrome.

but not aware of whom he needs to contact for help as he is thousands of miles away.more chance talking to A.A.

as the op.says "this is serious shit" agree B.S.
