Today I was in a bike shop and the lady showed me a Trek Madone 2.1 Model 2015, last piece.

Shimano 105 (11 gear).

She measured my leg length and measured 83 cm at 170 tall.

And told the 54 cm frame is just right for me.

Price normally 45.000. Discount as it is the last one 36.000 (incl. VAT).

Does that sound right.

Shop was nice, she wrote me the model and the price down so I can check on internet at home on the bike. That was nice. She also immediately told that it is 36.000 not 45.000 as the sticker said.

Any comments on it? Good/bad/cheap/expensive.

My impression on the bike is that it is a solid thing without anything amazing and without any flaws....but correct me if you think I am wrong.

Edit: crank: should it be better 170 or 172.5 (172.5 is a standard??) In my days I had a 173. But had it because I got it cheap when I had no money.

That`s a bargain buy it.......I bought a Trek 2.1 in 2012 and have been overly satisfied with the bike. I paid 40K and I'm as fast or slow at the aluminium 2.1 as I was as a previous owner of Trek Madone 5.2 with carbon frame plus experience with quit a few top end other bicycle brands included Giant and Felt bikes. I'm actually more satisfied with the seamless gear shift with 105 on the Trek 2.1 than what I was with Ultegra on the Trek Madone 5.2. The only negative I have to mention about the bike is heavy wheels. Doesn't matter if your not racing but if racing a good and light wheelset can be bought for 5K and up in Thailand.

THANKS!!!! for your answer....

I am 43 and didn't train for 15 year so the frame weight (they told me the bike is 8 kg which is total amazing for me) won't be the thing that limit me.....(and if I diet of 3 kg it would be equal to a 5kg bicycle biggrin.pngbiggrin.png)

I am happy like a 10 year old waiting for Santa Clause smile.png....Back on the bike soon ......

Now I tried the bike. Frame is very stiff which I like. Fork is also very stiff, which is nice on the normal street, but down at high speed on bad streets it is a bit too stiff. I have "only" 9 bar pressure in the tires (back in Europe the tires were smaller but had 11 bar).

Not a real problem, just a first impression of it. Else the bike fits like it was produced only for me. Great bike!

11 bar ??!!!?? That's 160 psi!

I inflate my tires to about 8 bar and most of my friends use even less. That's for 700x23 tires. Most tires that size have a recommended maximum inflation of 8 - 8.5 bars.

You should try lowering the pressure for a smoother ride.

yes now I have 700x23 and 9 bar in it. Back when I was racing in Europe 15 years ago the tires were a lot smaller and not as high, glued on the wheel. And my 11 bars weren't the most extreme. Everyone wanted to go smaller and higher pressure. It seems that has complete changed. Now everyone has these broad tires with lower pressure. I recall the steel forks were very slim and you could see them bend and jump like a suspension.

It seems there is a complete change of ideas in the last 15 years.

9 bar is still too much and exceeds the maximum recommended pressure for tires made today.

I did my first race over 40 years ago and occasionally used 700 x 19 tires. But unless we were racing on the velodrome no one ever inflated their tires to 11 bar.

15-25 years ago at least in my area everyone wanted to have the thinnest tires with the highest pressure, the believe at that time, as thinner and as higher the pressure as less energy is used to roll. Seems time has changed, and Thai streets are less smooth. Will reduce to 8 bar and have a look how this goes. (I am with 64 kg not heavy as well,, that should also have an influence)

Thanks everyone.
