russia-11.jpg

PATTAYA: -- On Saturday a Russian couple reported the loss of a bag containing 60,000 Baht which they left on a Baht Bus. At the same time the driver found the bag and informed Police who were able to re-unite the money with the Tourists.

Miss Ddria Labkovskaya aged 29 and her boyfriend took a Baht Bus from the North Pattaya Bus Terminal to Pattaya Beach Road, and were dropped in front of Central Festival Pattaya Beach. They soon realized the bag containing the money was still on the Baht Bus and hurried to Pattaya Police Station to report the incident.

At the same time, Traffic Police Officers were contacted by the Baht Bus Driver, Khun Surashort aged 46, who handed in the bag containing the money. Police arranged for the tourists and the driver to meet at which time the money was handed back to the delight of the pair.

You have to have some luck sometimes ... Good to know that there are still honest Songtao drivers in Pattaya.

  • It still baffles me how much cash some guys carry around. And for the first time I see a reasonable reward given to the driver. 6,000 Baht. Well done tourists!

This honest bus driver is definitely NOT Tuk-Tuk driver material.

Put this man's picture in the hall of fame of honest Thai cab drivers, that's is if there is one....

Who in their right mind carries around 60,000 baht.

the baht bus driver must have had a sixth sense and got out of his songtao to see if there was any bags with cash left behind

Anyone watch Australia's The Embassy? The policeman on the right was in last night's episode. Him and another were asking a farang to hand over a 'face saving payment' to the scamming ex who stole his passport. Reported he was already $70k Aussie down.

Does not happen alot, but nice to read about it when it does !!! Good man.

Who in their right mind carries around 60,000 baht.

Russian's.

Hope they gave him some reward, i would have.

Not all Thais in Pattaya are dishonest. I once lost a bag from the back of my bicycle on Beach road, Jomtien, without knowing it until someone raced up on a motorbike to return it to me. There was a small amount of cash in it and a few other things but all was left intact. I gave the guy 100 baht which he initially refused until I insisted. I was really impressed by that and will never forget it.

Hope they gave him some reward, i would have.

duh ??

I wonder if the Police find it important to call the news team when this type of things happen.

Nice gesture from the couple giving a 6000 baht tip to the cabbieclap2.gif

Works both ways. I once found a 'Mac Air' laptop on BTS, lady had got off at Vic Mon. I handed in at Ari, details given etc. Within 45 minutes I had a phone call from a lady who wanted to reward me...she actually rang twice, she was so grateful.

I didn't accept!

Many people live their live according to the principle of "Karma".

Firstly, if this s completely true then I congratulate the driver.

But I raise a point set out earlier. If you have 60,000 baht in a bag are you likely to 'forget it'.?

Also, if it's left in the back what happened? Was the driver alerted by another passenger - in which case we should applaud the honest passenger. (The previous poster made the point about the driver checking the back of the bus each time a passenger gets off).

I just don't understand how this could have happened without the involvement of an honest 3rd party.

But, well done that man.

its a good job he did clap2.gif

I have a personal story of a similar occurrence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

I had been in the city at one of the old souks with a friend purchasing a refrigerator. In
a rush to get it loaded onto a truck along a busy street, I set my valuables down on the side
of the road and left them there. I had lost all my ID and the equivalent of probably 30,000
Baht. I didn't notice until we returned home and was resigned to the fact that come the end
of the weekend I'd just have to go through the process of replacing all my ID.

However, on Saturday (first work day of the work week in Saudi) while I was figuring out how to go
about replacing everything, I received a phone call from security at our offices. Turns out
someone had recovered my bag and turned it in, all there including the cash. They had tracked
me down because of my company ID. Sadly, I never got to meet or thank whomever it was that
recovered and returned my personal items.

The point of telling my seemingly unrelated story is so we don't forget that there are decent
honest hard working people all around us wherever we are, regardless of their nationality,
race or religion.

How about "well done baht bus driver" first? Then "well done tourists" second? That driver has done more than any person at TAT!

I've lost 2.5 million baht , no one handed it back to me.

Now that's worth a photo!!

I left an expensive phone in a toilet cubicle at Terminal 21 and while washing my hands the next person (Thai) to use the cubicle came rushing out with my phone to give to me. No reward accepted. I was gob smacked, but thankful.

duh..... tourists , smoke em if ya got em...:-)

They should consider themselves VERY lucky. Hope they gave him a reward. If not I'm sure he would consider keeping the next bag he finds, whistling.gif

Well they did give him 6000 THB, didn't they?

What is this with tourists anyway, leaving bags of cash, or jewelry/gold, in taxis etc. This is about the 3rd story I have seen this year where the honest Thai hands it back via the cops. Are they so bombed out on their "Thailand Experience" their short term memory goes haywire ? God I hope they find their way back home, Russia, China etc. We wouldn't want them over-staying.
