18-year-old gets 25 years for murder of parents, brother
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Court last week handed down a 25-year jail term to an 18-year-old for murdering his parents and his younger brother on March 9, Pathum Thani police chief Pol Maj-General Montri Yimyaem said yesterday.

On October 22, the court found the former university student guilty of the premeditated murder of his parents and brother, and initially handed down a life sentence, Montri said.

However, since the crime was committed while the suspect was still a minor and his confession was useful to the case, the court reduced the sentence to 25 years. The young man is currently in Thanyaburi Prison, Montri added.

1/3 off for good behavior, a reduction in terms following royal birthday or two,

over crowding situation more reduction and the man will be out by the age of 30

and plenty of time to enjoy his parents inheritance....

who said that crime doesn't pay?????

"his confession was useful to the case" ? w00t.gif

Is this another BIB can't quite do the job?

I remember this case clearly, and it was plain obvious to all at TV what had happened, considering he placed the gun in his brother's hand, was at the house on the night, heard nothing, and got up to go to Uni next morning, as if nothing had happened.

Why should a confession reduce the sentence of premeditated murder, no matter what age????... he was a big boy, at uni.... not exactly stupid. Well, I withdraw the latter statement; being at Uni in Th indicates nothing. All for a car, and Dad's money. He should be hung by the balls, and let off not a jot to even consider spending any of that money. He should be forced to donate it to charity, if it's still in his hands or access to it is.

JOC - If you look back, he was named, as were all the family, at the time. wink.png

With multiple, repeating Royal pardons he will be out in seven years, if not earlier.

No such thing, prisoners are either pardoned or they're not. One pardon and they're out permanently.

That is not true. When a prisoner gets a pardon it is x amount off the original sentence. The amount of time given as a pardon also depends on how the prisoner has behaved as they are graded by the prison staff. It is more common than not that a prisoner gets multiple pardons before being realized.

25 years in jail for a triple murder? Seems WAY too lenient to me. Some people say punishment has no deterrent effect. I disagree. How about 25 years of hard labor and then the death penalty by public televised hanging?

Why not named??

Understand they don't name minor suspects, but he is not a minor anymore.

Here is the background story with the details - http://english-translation-services.com/b500000-bail-set-for-teen-killer

This English translation background story says he was 19 years old. The OP on this threat says when he committed the crime he was a minor, thus reduced sentence...

Initially given a life sentence but reduced to 25 years because "his confession was helpful to the case". I am really getting tired of this norm in the Thai legal system. The guy murdered his family in a premeditated crime. The kind of person who could do that should certainly get a life sentence for each victim, but because he made the case easy for the police and prosecution, they reduce it. How can anybody take Thailand serious when this type of attitude prevails all aspects of it? It's a society with very little integrity.

A minor is someone under the age of 20 in Thailand. Also, depends on whether using Western birthday or Thai birthday. Common for the year of birth to be considered 1 year old in Thailand so a Thai 19 year old would be Western 18.

Thai repression spurred by saving face and escalating to murder is the foundation a society is based on... However most have miles of patience but those with a hot temper simply cant conform.

Don't be too easy on him. Why not 25 years of delicate torture, then have him dragged through the streets on a cartwheel while the yokels pelt him with excrement before having him hung drawn and quartered in the town square. His head can then adorn the battlements for 6 months.

I guess you really hate Bill Occam, then? Not that conspiracies don't exist, but there's a certain mindset in assuming there is a conspiracy, against all evidence to the contrary.

His name is Akkhawat Sornprom. It was given at the time of the crime. It was given at his arrest, during his trial, at his conviction, etc. It is available in ThaiVisa archives.

How about hot weather? Getting tired of that? Might as well combine the two into a single plaint because your weariness does not interest anyone who matters. But stress yourself out, it's still a partly free country.
