Just to point out in many countries 'teaching assistant' is the job title given to untrained and unqualified people assigned to control a disabled or challenged child in a school environment. In other words a minder.

In this Thai school it appears they hired within the correct job description.

As you have no WP you are working illegally, no contract with illegal workers can be enforced.

Just walk away.

First of all this isn't "many other countries," this is Thailand and the role of teaching assistant can cover many different duties & responsibilities (even in many other countries) that are generally spelled out clearly in the job description, but rarely would the work be reduced to "control" a disabled child (whatever that means) on a one-to-one basis throughout the day unless that was specifically agreed when hired.

Work activities

As a teaching assistant you would support teachers and help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom. Your exact job will depend on the school and the age of the children.

Your job may include:

  • getting the classroom ready for lessons
  • listening to children read, reading to them or telling them stories
  • helping children who need extra support to complete tasks
  • helping teachers to plan learning activities and complete records
  • supporting teachers in managing class behaviour
  • supervising group activities
  • looking after children who are upset or have had accidents
  • clearing away materials and equipment after lessons
  • helping with outings and sports events
  • taking part in training
  • carrying out administrative tasks.

Teachers can’t do it all. As they scribble math formulas and compound sentences onto chalkboards, they might need an aide to float from desk to desk and answer students’ lingering questions. Teacher assistants also provide what Ruth Cole Burcaw, former executive director for the North Carolina Association of Teacher Assistants, calls the “warm fuzzies.” “Teachers are focused on lesson planning, test scores, paperwork and administrative stuff, and the teacher assistants sometimes feel like they have the luxury to love those little kids,” she says. “They make sure those kids have somebody at school who cares about what happens to them.”

Just do something that gets u fired right after your pay day like abuse a thai teacher and tell them they dont deserve to be a teacher. Contract terminated.

I really wouldnt stress, you are on probation and technically working illigally. Probation usually works both ways with a months notice.

However, if you give a months notice and work it, they may decided not to pay you. In regards to you paying them how are they going to get the money? You could tell them that you are going to the Department of Labour to check on the validity of your contract and employment, might deter them from persuing it further.

I walked away in less than an hour from my first teaching job in Thailand because I could see clearly that what I was told at the interview was not how it really was and wasnt likely to change. They threatened me with all sorts of rubbish but I never heard from them again. As a final thought, when a contract contains clauses such as this it would appear to me that they are used to people walking out on them.
