After 6 months in/out of Thailand, I'd like to apply for an O-A visa. The concern is that Ecuadorian visa requirements may be different than US requirements. I'm wondering about the difficulty of doing this from Ecuador. Can I do it as a US citizen if I am located with permanent residence in Ecuador? Any idea on how this might work?

You could email and ask if they do the O-A visa. Looks like no Thai Embassy there, but a consulate that may, or may not, be able to offer full visa services.

Thanks, both of you for your help. Bummer though. Would rather go back to Thailand with an extension of stay but I've heard an O-A visa can only be gained from outside Thailand. And being outside of the US, getting a two month visa isn't likely either.

I was a US citizen living in Canada and got my O-A in my US passport at the consulate in Vancouver. So I don't understand what the problem is, except that you do not have a handy consulate.

The O-A visa must be applied for in the country you have official residence, so you can do it at the Thai embassy for Ecuador. You apply as a US citizen, that is the passport your hold.

You can get a tourist visa in any country with a Thai embassy or consulate, it does not have to be your home country. Only the O-A visa is specific in that you must apply in your home country - country of residence. That is because for this visa a police check is required.

.

As mentioned above, currently there is no Thailand embassy or consulate in Ecuador. Its duties are perforrmed in Peru.
