Marriage visa cancelled... Help

Featured Replies

would appreciate a bit of advice please.

I dropped a huge clanger and got my non 'o' business visa (which i have extended for the last 2 years through marriage to a thai citizen) cancelled. My own fault, i didnt realise i had to notify immigration when i went to the uk on holiday in the summer. when i went to do my yearly renewel they notified me of the error and slapped me with a 25 day overstay penalty

They did grant me straight away with some sort of 3 month visa (not sure exactly what) which expires end of november. the woman i dealt with in immigration told me to do a border run to cambodia and once i returned i could then apply for a new marriage extension.

But it just seems a bit strange as a friend pointed out. If i just did a border hop and returned i still wouldnt have an actual visa to extend would i? so do i need to get a new non 'o' visa and then return. The immigration woman most definitely made no mention of me getting a new visa in cambodia, just that i had to leave the country and then return.

Anybody know for sure what i should do?, or should i just go back to immigration and clarify the situation.

many thanks

A border hop does not do much good.

If you are or go to Bangkok you can convert your entry to non-imm 'O' visa, need at least 15 days remaining of allowed stay, form TM.87, fee Bt 2,000.

Otherwise you can get the same in e.g. Savannakhet Laos with same day service.

Once you have one or other after you have season funds for 60 days, or proof of income, you can apply for an year long extension of stay.

You had an extension of stay based upon marriage not a visa. You lost it because you did not get a re-entry permit before leaving for your trip.

I think they may of given you a 60 day extension of stay to visit your wife.

If this was at Bangkok immigration they were telling you could do a border crossing for a visa exempt entry and do a conversion to a 90 day non immigrant visa entry. Then after that you could apply for the one year extension.

Another example of the importance for people to understand that an extension of stay is not a visa and that a permission to stay or extension of stay allows the holder to stay IN Thailand. not to exit and re-enter. If you are here on an extension and you want to exit & return, a re-entry permit is needed. Just about everyone who's been here for years because of retirement or marriage will have an extension of stay, NOT a visa.
