PM orders increased safety checks on Loy Krathong

1-11-2557-15-54-06-wpcf_728x411.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has called on relevant agencies to step up inspection of celebration places to ensure safety ahead of Loy Krathong festival.

In his weekly address to the people, Gen Prayut said that he had instructed the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, as well as local administrative bodies to step up safety inspection and visits of locations where Loy Krathong celebrations will be held.

He said since the celebration is performed near rivers, safety and rescue operation is a prime concern.

The premier called on all relevant agencies in charge to inspect all piers, pontoons and to check rescue equipment prior to the festival.

To make sure that the security and safety measures implemented will be effective, he has ordered inspections of fireworks factories and shops, threatening to impose tough penalties on those failing to abide by the regulations stated in the permits.

Entertainment venues found to allow minors to enter or operate longer hours than are permitted will be held responsible if anything goes wrong, he said.

1.56 million migrant workers, dependents registered
By Digital Content

14148323873967-640x390x1.jpg

BANGKOK, Nov 1 -- A total of 1.56 million of migrant workers, including about 90,000 of their dependents, have registered with the Labour Ministry’s Employment Department, said Sumet Mahosot, director-general.

The migrant workers and their dependents, of Myanmar, Lao and Cambodian nationalities, registered between June 26 and October 31, said Mr Sumet.

Friday was the last day for migrant workers to register, a step which would help them work legally in Thailand.

Employers hiring illegal foreign workers from this date face a maximum fine of Bt100,000 per illegal worker employee, while an illegal foreign worker will face a maximum imprisonment of five years or a fine of Bt100,000 or both.

The Employment Department will cooperate with authorities of the three neighbouring countries to conduct nationality verification identification and the process must be completed within March 31, 2015.

After that a visa would be issued along with work permit between April 1 and March 31, 2016.

Migrant workers receiving work permits will be entitled to enter Thailand’s social security system as specified by law which means they would receive benefits along with medical care like local workers. (MCOT online news)
