NLA to take no more than 45 days to decide on impeachment motion

BANGKOK, 1 November 2014, (NNT) - National Legislative Assembly member Wanlop Tankhananurak expects that the NLA will require 45 days at most to reach a verdict on the impeachment motion on Nikhom Wairatphanit and Somsak Kiatsuranon.

According to Mr. Wanlop, the NLA will meet on November 6 to deliberate the impeachment motions on former House of Representatives speaker Somsak Kiatsuranon and former Senate speaker Nikhom Wairatphanit, and whether or not the NLA will accept the motion submitted by the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

If the meeting resolves to accept the motion for further consideration, a committee will be established to invite the accused and the accuser for questioning. This process will take 45 days at most, after which the NLA will decide whether to go ahead with the impeachment.

That should be televise live to the general public. More public airing of the NLA in session should be encouraged.

Plus real time translation into more common languages like English, Chinese, Spanish, and so to allow our TVF posters to more accurately and promptly complain.

BTW assuming the country you come from has a parliament are sessions regularly live broadcasted? If you any details on average number of viewers?

PS statistics are difficult to get it would seem, but I found this on a period in British History. Really impressive figures. Surely Thailand could do as good as the UK in this rolleyes.gif

From where I come from, significant Parlimentary sessions are broadcast live. Don't you think this NLA session is significant enough? Do them lots of good too as the perception of this insular appointed NLA is rather poor to the general public.

The sooner there's an election and this pantomime pajama parliament of parasitic peckerhead politicians is ditched, the better!

No, they're the starting point to the end of all Thailand's woes.

Look at Indonesia - no military rulers and no coups since 1998, democracy is finally taking hold there as evinced by the recent election of Jokowi.

You've got to start at the start in order to get to the end.

If you won't even start, then you will never finish.

If the TVF yellow peanut brigade want their 15 principles of democracy to ever eventuate here, they should be advocating for immediate elections so that the journey towards equality and freedom can begin ASAP.

Your first sentence, starting point ??? so before the protests when Thaksin informed Yingluck to go and get in a snap election ???? it would have been a starting point for the same Regime to have another 4 years of domination and lousy governance.

If that was what rhe Thai people chose possibly, based on your options of that government. At least it would have been their choice, as opposed ro a government imposed at gunpoint. Don't bother to respond, we know you don't believe the Thais should be allowed to choose.

First of all what is with your perception of a "snap election" ? The PTP announced the dissolution of parliament on December the 8th 2013 as a result of peoples dissatisfaction with the government and it was due to be held on February 2nd 2014 in line with the constitution.

As the PM said

Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has announced the dissolution of the country's parliament, amid ongoing anti-government protests.

Ms Yingluck says she will remain as interim prime minister ahead of the election which is likely to be held on February 2.

"At this stage, when there are many people opposed to the government from many groups, the best way is to give back the power to the Thai people and hold an election," she said.

"So the Thai people will decide."

Now as far as I recall, the people who were demonstrating against the government wanted them out, and the usual way for that to happen in a democracy is for an election to be held and the people vote for the party that they wish to form a government. Also as far as I am aware there had been no changes to the "rules" for holding an election and the conditions were the same as they were in 2011. The same conditions that led the former PM and subsequent loser of that election in 2011 to declare that the election was free and fair.

So tell me am I missing something when you declare that the results of this "snap election" would be that the PTP would win and have "another 4 years of dominance"? Apart from the fact that the PTP government was only in power for 40 odd days longer than abhisit's don't you think the job of the opposition is to campaign to win an election to get the chance to form a government?

I can't believe people here are advocating broadcasting Thai Parliamentary debates or Council meetings. Have you seen what happens when you give a Thai a microphone? Listen to those screeching girls in supermarkets! Listen to headteachers at PTA meetings or playground assemblies! Watch comperes at local festivals/shows! Look at the Suthep show on Blue Sky before he became a monk! Thais with a mike/audience become megalomaniacs. Never go into a karaoke bar without earmuffs and a fat wallet.

At the time of the snap election that Thaksin wanted ---yes they would have more than likely got back in---no denying that.

Problem Thaksin knew it, and wanted the gamble, BEFORE ALL THE RICE, AMNESTY, and other matters were fully understood. NOW a different kettle of fish isn't it. They are not there anymore and to boot the Thai people are aware of the goings on within the Shin clan.

I say now lets have an election soon.

Fab4, had I been on your ignore list you would not have to have answered would you ?? so please implement the (ignore) thanks.

Before we get too deep into what colour shirts we like, why are they considering impeaching these two guys?

I am on a very low bandwidth connection so suggestions that I go look for info already posted will be much less appreciated than a direct link to a primary news story.

Thanks for your time.
