One poster has set the bar at 6000 baht a month all in, fully inclusive including extra ice creams from KFC.

If anyone can provide conclusive proof that they can live cheaper than this on a sustainable basis, Clawed Warrior Inc are willing to offer 5000 baht substinence award and a free TGAU and free delivery on a baht bus to a location of your choice.

We look forward to your monthly audited accounts which will be verified by Costas.

I can beat that and somebody else can verify my accounts.

1. Food = 0 Baht

In our village there is a funeral or wedding at least once a week, so we eat there for 3 or 4 days and we take home in plastic bags all the left overs for the rest of the week.

2. Petrol = 0 Baht

We use bycicles

3. House paid, no expense for rent

4. Electricity = 250 Baht a month.

No air condition used, only hand fans

5. Water = 50Baht a month

We reuse the water for baths.

6. Internet = 0 Baht

We get the neighbours WiFi

7. Hair cut = 40 Baht a month for me

I cut my wife's hair.

8. Clothes = 0 Baht

Haven't bought anything for me and the wife for the past 7 years

9. Beer = 2,700 Baht

2 bottles a day + the drinks we get for free from the weddings and funerals.

10. Entertainment = 0 Baht

Got a karaoke machine and sing to ourselves.

Can't think of anything else at the moment but my total expenditure comes to 3,040 Baht a month.

Do I win?

In 2008 I tried a lifestyle experiment to see how little money I could live on. It was a lifestyle choice, not driven by economic necessity.

For the full year I spent 180,572 baht or 15,000 baht per month. I kept detailed accurate household expense records. This is the lowest calendar year household expense total I've had since moving to Thailand in 2003.

I did not pay rent, own a motorized vehicle, or TV, computer or cell phone. I did not drink alcohol. I got around on a bicycle. I did not sacrifice my nutrition, but ate exclusively at home, and ate almost no imported food.

I remember this year as not one of hardship, but I would describe it as a year of "severe frugality."

On the surface 15,000 baht/month may sound like a lot, but that works out to only 493 baht/day. I actually believe this to be a fairly remarkable achievement. At 34 baht/$ this works out to just $441/month, or $5,292 per year. I'd say that's pretty good for a full year.

Based on the above experience, I don't believe that 6,000 baht per month will provide a person a comfortable lifestyle on a sustainable basis. While it is certainly possible to periodically spend this little during any given month, (and I have done this a number of times) that amount of money will not afford a person a comfortable lifestyle on a sustainable basis.

I suspect that anyone who claims to be able to do this is basing this on 1 or 2 months living costs rather than a true long term cost of living, or simply isn't keeping accurate living cost records.

According to The Oracle of cheapness you are living a life of excess.

Gecko, yes this was a very good post.

You win.

You can have the 5000Baht and all the rest, but please let me have the free Bhat Bus drive.

Agreed?

Have a secret agreement with Mr Soutpeel.

He pays all the bills, I tell Zuma not to bite off his balls.thumbsup.gif

15,000 Baht is way too luxurious. The bar has been set at 6000 Baht including accommodation and bills.

There are a lot of balloon chasers out there!

Free food and bin diving doesn't count. It's your actual cash expenditure including accommodation and bills.

So get a serious accident which lands you in hospital and should be the winner with a total cost of 5000 a month for the next several months.

Who win this?

the poor badger???? may he won the case of sexual assault in certain cases by certain members???

Cc,

It's getting to you already....everything's relating back to sex. You need to go get a soapie.

Maybe CC, has just revealed that he's too tight to pay for a soapie. He's the real cheap Charlie. CC should win.

And of course MRTOAD is a cheap Charlie from way back, which is why he created this thread, hoping secretly that nobody was cheaper than him. He didn't want to lose the title.

that's why he never announced a winner.

The thread was a scam.

Scamming cheap MRTOAD.

MR ND as you know my wife will give birth every moment ...i get even an erection when the wind blows...and according to David the next 6-9 month also doesn't look rosy...but i am strong and ...temptation...holy mackerel...

Easy.

I can live off 25,000thb a year if I want to, no problem. Divide that by 12 months of the year and you have How Ever Much That Is, which makes me the winner.

How do I do it?

Well, you pay 25,000thb for a plane ticket home to the UK, ask for "fish bits" that are (were?) free from fish 'n' chip shops, live under a bridge and spend your time posting on TVF. In case of medical problems you get free health care until such time as the Tories completely sell it off, at which point you'd be dead already from the cold.

I believe my 4 hours waiting to board at Swampy qualifies me despite most of the time actually spent back home because....

and here is the really clever part, where I win:

I am entitled.

I thank you. No sharing the baht bus, sorry. I expect it to be imported to Skegness (in it for the lifestyle an' all that....)

A few years ago, when I was living in Bangkok, I did a 17,000 Baht month without meaning to. That included a 5000 bill for rent and utilities. How did I achieve this? Simply by going to work every day. Getting in around 8pm and then getting up in the morning and doing it all again.
