Hi

I had one of my little strokes of genius laugh.png and came up with this idea...

I would like to make a model of a tank, let's say a classic Norton tank, in a 1:4 or 1:3 scale. If I'm not mistaken that would bring the tank down from about 65cm to about 17-22cm length. Obviously the tank would be only for decoration.

Now I thought about a thin sheet of aluminium, but I recon that would be difficult and very expensive to make.

A better option would be to have a mould that can be used many times, use clay or another material to form the tank, and then send it to a shop that does chrome work. I'm not sure how chroming really works, but I saw a video yesterday where a guy chromed a small glass bottle, a plank of wood and other materials.

How would you go on about something like that? Is it doable?

Solid , could be made of wood or even a type of "styrafoak". Sheet metal would require some good metalwork. May be easier to go full size.

Styrofoam would be easy to make, but a lot of details would get lost and I don't think they could chrome that.

The idea is to make a decorative tank about 20cm long, something you would put on a nice wooden support and put on shelf to admire.

With a mold it could be reproduced infinitely.

Mold it from foam and fiberglass the outer, then bondo and paint it but chrome paint rarely comes out nice.
